About The Position

This position is for a Custodian I within the Building Services Department at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. The University is a land-grant institution, classified among the nation's top 2 percent of universities for research activity, dedicated to advancing the state through education, research, and outreach. The campus is situated in Fayetteville, a community recognized as one of the best places to live in the U.S. The role primarily involves general cleaning and maintenance duties across various campus buildings, including offices, classrooms, lecture halls, conference rooms, auditoriums, and common areas. Additionally, the Custodian I will be responsible for snow and ice removal during winter months. Requirements

  • Ability to effectively communicate to be able to perform job duties
  • Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment operation and maintenance
  • Ability to follow instructions and perform repetitive manual work
  • Ability to use cleansers and other agents to clean floors and furniture
  • Ability to use housekeeping cleaning supplies and equipment
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and to prioritize assignments
  • Ability to perform repetitive manual work
  • Ability to do required lifting (up to 50 lbs.)

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of custodial experience in the commercial/corporate industry

Responsibilities

  • General cleaning of areas in and around office buildings, classrooms, lecture halls, conference rooms, auditoriums, building common areas, and other areas on campus as required
  • Vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting
  • Emptying small office trash cans as well as large Brute trash cans
  • Using a carpet extractor and a floor buffer
  • Cleaning commodes, sinks, water fountains, etc.
  • Snow/ice removal during winter months
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance
  • Ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others
