About The Position

Performs journey-level preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs for County facilities with greater independence than Technician I. The position coordinates assigned work, documents labor and materials, operates vehicles and equipment, and assists with projects and emergency response within established authority.

Requirements

• Knowledge of preventive maintenance and basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical methods appropriate to the assigned level.
• Ability to recognize when work requires a permit, licensed contractor, specialized equipment, de-energization, or escalation to a supervisor.
• Ability to use hand and power tools, test equipment, ladders, vehicles, and assigned machinery safely and within training and authorization.
• Ability to read work orders, diagrams, equipment manuals, product labels, safety data sheets, and maintenance schedules.
• Ability to diagnose routine problems, document labor and materials in the maintenance-management system, and maintain accurate inspection and repair records.
• Ability to coordinate work in occupied public buildings and communicate service impacts professionally to departments, contractors, coworkers, and the public.
• High school diploma or recognized equivalent.
• One year of related experience, identical to Technician I.
• Valid driver’s license
• Maintain a valid license and satisfy County driving requirements.
• Trade or contractor credential (Only if required for work personally performed)
• Maintain active status and comply with the credential’s scope, supervision, permitting, and renewal requirements.

Nice To Haves

• Two or more years of progressively responsible facilities maintenance or building-repair experience.
• Relevant vocational or technical training and demonstrated competency in one or more building trades.

Responsibilities

• Performs scheduled preventive maintenance and authorized repairs involving carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, and related building systems within assigned training, licensure, permits, and authority.
• Responds to breakdowns, service requests, and facility emergencies; secures affected areas, reduces immediate hazards when trained to do so, and escalates conditions requiring specialized or licensed assistance.
• Inspects assigned facilities, systems, tools, and equipment; identifies deficiencies; and recommends repair, replacement, or contractor support to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
• Uses the County maintenance-management system to record work orders, time, materials, inspections, equipment condition, and completion status accurately.
• Coordinates assigned work with County departments and contractors while protecting occupants, County property, keys, access credentials, and restricted facility information.
• Operates assigned County vehicles, tools, and equipment after required training and inspection and promptly reports damage, malfunction, incidents, or unsafe conditions.
• Uses, stores, and disposes of maintenance chemicals and products according to labels, safety data sheets, training, ventilation requirements, and assigned protective equipment.
• Diagnoses and resolves routine multi-trade maintenance problems with limited direction and escalates complex, hazardous, regulated, or permit-requiring work.
• Coordinates assigned portions of projects and verifies that work orders, parts, materials, and completion records are accurate.
• Directs an inmate or other approved work crew only when specifically assigned and only under the governing agreement, required supervision, site rules, training, and tool-control procedures.
• Loads, unloads, transports, and stores assigned tools, equipment, supplies, and materials using safe handling practices.
• Supports emergency preparation, response, recovery, special events, facility moves, and other departmental operations within assigned training and classification.
• Performs other related duties consistent with the position’s purpose, classification, County policy, safety requirements, and applicable wage-and-hour rules.
