About The Position

Maintain park sites, municipal sites, grounds and right-of-ways throughout the City including but not limited to general maintenance, repairs and installations.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to work cooperatively with co-workers.
  • Ability to operate and maintain landscaping equipment, and other equipment and tools used to maintain City facilities and to learn and obey safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance and repair techniques depending on the area of assignment; the operation and maintenance of assigned light equipment, power and hand tools; safe handling techniques of hazardous chemicals and materials; and City policies and procedures.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical activity, (lift up to 50lbs) including pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, twisting, standing, and walking, for extended periods of time in adverse conditions, including extreme heat, cold, moisture, dust, and fumes, at various heights, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work weekday, evening, and weekend hours as assigned for maintenance and special events.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and one year related experience preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Class “C” Texas driver’s license prior to employment.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and background check.
  • Must be able to work overtime as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, installs and replaces landscaping in city parks, right of ways, medians and municipal facilities including cutting brush, trimming trees; mowing and weed-eating high grass and weeds.
  • Picks up and disposes of litter, trash, and debris at park sites and City facilities.
  • Coordinates with contractors when third-party work is requested and follows-up until project is completed.
  • Provides status updates on work order request to necessary departments.
  • Maintains athletic fields, levels ground and monitors grounds for safety hazards.
  • Monitors irrigation systems and water lines, inspecting for leaks/damages and reports, repairs and/or replaces as needed.
  • Assists staff with office repair/item assembly at multiple city facility locations.
  • Occasional operation of heavy equipment, e.g., dump trucks, front end loaders, etc.
  • Repairs and maintains equipment, furniture, facilities and playground components.
  • Assists as necessary with any departmental projects within the City.
  • Organizes tools, equipment and supplies necessary to complete assignments.
  • Inspects, cleans and maintains equipment and tools in a safe operating order.
  • Cleans work sites and performs routine inspections of assigned areas to detect any necessary repairs or hazardous conditions.
  • Cleans restrooms and other public areas.
  • Assists in the setup, tear down and cleanup for special events and meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Flexible schedules may be required during peak seasons with vacations considered and approved based on seasonal work load.
