About The Position

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Facilities Maintenance Worker I in our Facilities Maintenance Department. This role involves performing general building maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, construction, and equipment repairs. The position also requires painting, plastering, and other repairs to walls and doors, as well as monitoring and servicing A/C units. The worker will complete work orders in software systems, assist in managing third-party contractors, and operate department vehicles and equipment. Responsibilities include familiarizing oneself with city permitting procedures, coordinating contractor activities, preparing reports, and using various tools and equipment. The role involves interaction with supervisors, other City employees, and the general public, as well as assisting other maintenance and custodial staff.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school or GED equivalent.
  • At least (1) year of experience in labor work.
  • Have an OSHA10 or higher certification or be able to obtain within 6 months.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and construction; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general building maintenance which involves electrical, plumbing, mechanical, construction and equipment repairs.
  • Paints, plasters, and performs other needed repairs to walls, doors, etc.
  • Monitors A/C and services as needed.
  • Completes work orders in Cartegraph and other software on a regular basis and asks for help when tasks are too complicated, heavy/difficult or otherwise hard to handle.
  • Assists in managing third party contractor support as needed or requested.
  • Drives and operates department vehicles and equipment that require a driver's license.
  • Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as maintenance route lists, daily hour logs, and vehicle preventative maintenance checklist.
  • Becomes familiar with established city permitting procedures and coordinating contractor activities at various locations within the city.
  • Prepares and/or processes records and report as needed.
  • Refers to equipment operator's manuals, policy and procedure manuals, codes/laws/regulations, etc.
  • Uses a variety of equipment and tools such as all hand and power tools, office equipment, lightweight trucks, shovels, rakes, and various other supplies in the performance of job duties.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, other City employees, and the general public.
  • Assists all other Facilities Maintenance and Custodial Workers on tasks as needed.
