About The Position

The Facilities Maintenance Technician II performs duties that include troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform repairs and maintenance of NCTD facilities and equipment. This is a bargained position represented by the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation workers (SMART) Union. In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, the salary for this position is $30.39 per hour. Possesses a broad base of knowledge, skill, and ability in various maintenance and repair disciplines. Also, possesses the skill and ability to operate the tools and equipment associated with these functions. This position works under the immediate supervision of the Facility Managers. They have no direct supervisory responsibility. Further, this position is expected to participate in the sharing of expert knowledge and as a vital member of various project teams that may be instituted.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in the maintenance of facilities office buildings, industrial sites, transit stations/centers.
  • Possess and maintain a California driver’s license, Class C, with less than 6 points in the prior 36 month period and no DUI’s in the prior 7 year period.
  • Maintain compliance with the District’s policy regarding Conflict of Interest and Ethics.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain annual access to Marine Corp Base Camp Pendleton.
  • Must be able to become RWP Qualified on NCTD owned railroad properties.
  • Possess and maintain a forklift driving training program.
  • Ability to read and understand written materials including the instructions and manuals pertaining to equipment and materials, department memorandums, simple schematics and blueprints, signs, safety instructions, and other work-related correspondence.
  • Ability to work effectively with other individuals.
  • Properly use equipment in a safe and productive manner, ability to complete forms, logs, and construct work-related notes in English.
  • Learn and follow a prescribed routine for preventative maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Skill in safely using the required tools for maintenance and repairs.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, concrete, painting, carpentry and building maintenance techniques.
  • Operate vehicles, tools and equipment required to complete repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to use the phone, radio, tablet, and computer; have manual dexterity to complete clerical functions and work with office equipment.
  • Lift equipment/objects up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to hear, see, and communicate verbally to exchange information.
  • Ability to physically travel between District locations and other destinations, work in evenings when required, work in hazardous conditions, and negotiate a variety of different and irregular terrain as is typical along a railway right-of-way.
  • Ability to maintain balance in and around wet floors, roof tops, and other difficult work locations.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, maintenance, and installation of NCTD facilities.
  • Performs/maintains components and systems, site work, and maintenance support equipment.
  • Maintain electrical/lighting equipment and components.
  • Tests and inspects equipment and performs preventive maintenance as required.
  • Troubleshoots, installs, and repairs various plumbing systems.
  • Performs minor/routine carpentry work.
  • Completes miscellaneous cement and asphalt work and repairs.
  • Performs mechanical work in the maintenance and minor repair of HVAC units and support equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, installs, and repairs various building and structural systems and site work, assists Facilities Maintenance Technician 3s as required.
  • Reacts to change productively and handles other tasks as assigned or required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
