Facilities Maintenance Tech Lead (FT- 1.0 FTE, Variable Shift)
About The Position
The Facilities Maintenance Lead ensures safe and reliable hospital operations by performing advanced diagnostics, coordinating utility shutdowns and tie-ins, and serving as a subject-matter resource for survey readiness and risk mitigation. This role leads daily execution of work orders, assigns and prioritizes tasks within the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), and serves as the first point of escalation for technical issues. The Lead coordinates contractors, oversees interdepartmental communication, and verifies work quality and documentation to support compliance and readiness for regulatory surveys. In addition, the position provides training and task-level direction to Apprentices and Technicians, supporting team development and operational consistency.
Requirements
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of healthcare facilities or trades experience.
- Advanced knowledge of NFPA 70/99/101 concepts, life safety drawings, and interim life safety measures (ILSM) and infection control risk assessment (ICRA) coordination.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate contractors and lead peers on shift.
- Strong written documentation skills for survey artifacts and root-cause analyses.
- Confined-space and hot-work permit training per policy; lift/rigging safety as applicable.
Nice To Haves
- Current EPA 608 Universal certification.
- One (1) advanced credential: boiler/stationary engineer license, state journeyman card, or ASSE 6040 certification.
- Experience leading responses to utility interruptions and conducting formal root-cause analyses.
- Experience maintaining or updating life-safety and utilities documentation for external surveys.
- Experience coordinating small projects, contractor workflows, and clinical stakeholder communication.
Responsibilities
- Perform advanced troubleshooting of controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), hydronic and steam systems, and medical gas alarms.
- Plan and coordinate shutdowns and tie-ins with Infection Prevention, Safety, and clinical leaders; ensure safe system restoration.
- Lead responses to utility events and assist with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Review and strengthen life-safety and utility documentation to support CMS/DNV survey readiness.
- Coordinate daily CMMS priorities, parts planning, and vendor/contractor activities.
- Train, coach, and provide task-level direction to Apprentices and Technicians.
- Author and update procedures, job plans, and shutdown checklists; support standardization and audit readiness.
- Communicate outage plans and risk mitigations clearly to stakeholders.
