Facilities Engineer

Newell Brands•Atlanta, GA

About The Position

Newell Brands is seeking a hands-on, early-career Associate Engineer for its Energy, Reliability & Automation (ERA) team within Global Supply Chain Engineering. The role is primarily field-facing, with significant time spent at North American manufacturing and distribution sites assessing assets and facility conditions, supporting capital projects, and conducting measurement and verification work. The position is suited to someone comfortable working independently in plant environments who can turn field observations into clear findings and actionable recommendations. It offers the opportunity to develop facilities engineering expertise across a varied manufacturing network. The engineer will assess facility assets and maintain portfolio-wide inventory and condition data; collect baseline and post-project performance measurements; support facilities capital projects and engineering standards; and prepare organized reports, dashboards, and inputs for capital planning. The role also supports fire and life safety inspection programs and site vulnerability assessments. Travel of up to 50% to manufacturing and distribution sites across North America is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 2 to 4 years of engineering experience in facilities, plant, infrastructure, or capital project work in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently conduct site walk-throughs, plant assessments, or facilities audits and produce structured written findings.
  • Basic working knowledge of facilities systems, including HVAC, roofing, building envelope, fire suppression, and civil infrastructure.
  • Strong observation skills and ability to identify non-standard, worn, or at-risk conditions in a facility.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, including the ability to clearly document field findings and follow through on action items.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% to manufacturing and distribution sites across North America.

Nice To Haves

  • Active daily use of AI tools integrated into engineering workflows.
  • Hands-on experience building or maintaining asset registers, equipment inventories, or facility condition databases.
  • Experience with measurement and verification methodologies, including establishing baselines, collecting post-implementation data, and reporting performance.
  • Exposure to fire and life safety systems, NFPA standards, or building inspection programs.
  • Experience with site resilience, vulnerability assessments, or facility risk programs in an industrial context.
  • Familiarity with ASCE 7-22, IBC, NFPA 13, or NFPA 25.
  • Exposure to multi-site capital programs in a large-scale manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to Power BI, Power Automate, or Smartsheet.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct structured on-site assessments of facility assets at North American manufacturing and distribution sites, documenting condition, age, and performance.
  • Build and maintain a portfolio-wide asset inventory, including equipment type, manufacturer, installation date, expected remaining useful life, and condition rating.
  • Identify end-of-life, non-standard, or operationally risky assets and provide supporting evidence for capital planning prioritization.
  • Photograph, document, and organize site findings for remote review and use in capital justification packages.
  • Develop site condition scorecards and track deficiency closure with site teams.
  • Support fire and life safety inspections by accompanying inspectors, documenting findings, and tracking deficiencies through closure.
  • Collect field measurements and baseline data for facility systems to support capital justification and post-project verification.
  • Collect post-implementation data and prepare performance reports comparing project results with capital appropriation commitments.
  • Gather field information for site vulnerability assessments, including building construction, roof condition, drainage, structural elements, and wind, flood, and seismic exposure.
  • Support engineering reviews and execution of facilities capital projects involving roofing, HVAC, building envelope, civil and site work, fire protection, and general facility improvements.
  • Gather project data, organize technical inputs, prepare status updates, and track action items.
  • Review technical drawings, specifications, vendor submittals, and project documentation with guidance from senior engineers and pillar leads.
  • Assist with RFP and SOW preparation, bid comparisons, and contractor qualification documentation.
  • Convert field findings into structured inputs for the ERA engineering standards library and help maintain site condition data, assessment records, and compliance matrices.
  • Maintain asset condition trackers, portfolio summaries, and facilities program dashboards.
  • Compile site assessment data, asset condition inputs, and project cost estimates to support three-year capital budget planning.
