About The Position

The Drain Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and clearing drainage systems throughout a healthcare facility to ensure safe, sanitary, and uninterrupted operations. This role supports hospitals, medical offices, outpatient facilities, and other healthcare environments by responding to drainage issues, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety, infection prevention, and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in drain cleaning, plumbing maintenance, or sewer system repair.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing systems, drainage infrastructure, and related equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record, if applicable.
  • Ability to operate drain cleaning and inspection equipment safely and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, clean, and maintain sanitary sewer, stormwater, and internal drainage systems.
  • Perform drain cleaning using cable machines, hydro-jetting equipment, augers, and other specialized tools.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot drain and sewer line blockages, backups, leaks, and system failures.
  • Utilize video inspection equipment to identify defects and determine corrective actions.
  • Respond to emergency plumbing and drainage issues to minimize disruption to patient care and facility operations.
  • Repair or replace damaged drain piping, fixtures, traps, and related components.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance activities according to established schedules.
  • Maintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, inspection reports, and work orders.
  • Adhere to infection control procedures when working in patient care and sensitive healthcare environments.
  • Coordinate with Facilities Management, Environmental Services, Infection Prevention, and clinical departments as needed.
  • Safely handle potentially contaminated materials and wastewater.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in a safe and operational condition.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and respond to after-hours emergencies as required.
