About The Position

The Summit Area YMCA is seeking an experienced Facilities Director to provide strategic leadership and oversight of our buildings, aquatic facilities, and physical infrastructure across the Association. Reporting directly to the CEO and President, this senior leadership position is responsible for protecting and enhancing the organization’s physical assets while ensuring our facilities are safe, compliant, efficient, and positioned to support our mission for years to come. The Facilities Director oversees four buildings and three aquatic facilities, working with maintenance and housekeeping teams and external vendors to ensure effective facility operations. This role extends beyond day-to-day maintenance to include long-range facility planning, capital project leadership, asset lifecycle management, budget oversight, sustainability initiatives, and collaboration with executive leadership and the Facilities Committee. We are looking for a facilities professional who can assess organizational needs, establish priorities, lead teams and projects, and translate complex facility issues into clear recommendations and actionable plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible management experience in facility management, operations, or a related skilled trade, preferably in a YMCA.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in communicating and collaborating with diverse groups and motivating diverse staff members to achieve stated goals.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in written form concisely and effectively.
  • Working knowledge of building systems: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, access control, and pool mechanical systems.
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage budgets, timelines, and multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or work order platforms (e.g., Facility Dude, eMaint, or similar).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and standard business software.
  • Excellent communication skills — written, verbal, and interpersonal.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound, independent judgment.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification
  • Pool Operator certification (CPO or AFO) or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Boiler certification or ability to obtain within 6 months

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing multi-site or multi-building facility operations strongly preferred.
  • Experience with aquatic or pool facility maintenance preferred.
  • Experience working with nonprofit boards or governance committees preferred.
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  • Basic to conversational Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of facilities operations across four buildings and three aquatic facilities.
  • Establish and oversee preventive maintenance programs for building systems, mechanical equipment, and aquatic facilities.
  • Ensure facilities are safe, well-maintained, code-compliant, and aligned with operational and organizational needs.
  • Monitor facility conditions, assess emerging risks, and establish priorities for maintenance, repairs, and improvements.
  • Oversee systems and processes for work orders, equipment records, inspections, supplies, and facility-related documentation.
  • Coordinate facility-related emergency response and oversee operational planning for weather events and other urgent situations.
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop long-term facility strategies, capital improvement plans, and investment priorities.
  • Develop and manage the annual facilities operating budget and multi-year capital forecast.
  • Oversee asset lifecycle planning, deferred maintenance tracking, and the replacement or modernization of major building systems.
  • Identify and evaluate capital projects, preparing recommendations, cost estimates, and supporting business cases.
  • Lead renovation, construction, and capital improvement projects from planning and vendor selection through completion.
  • Monitor project budgets, timelines, quality, and outcomes while providing regular updates to leadership.
  • Oversee and collaborate with the maintenance team and provide leadership to housekeeping staff.
  • Support recruiting, training, coaching, performance management, and professional development for facilities personnel.
  • Establish clear expectations and accountability for safety, service quality, responsiveness, and preventive maintenance.
  • Foster effective coordination among facilities staff, branch leadership, program teams, and external service providers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with qualified contractors, engineers, architects, and other facility service providers.
  • Lead bid and RFP processes, evaluate proposals, negotiate contracts, and monitor vendor performance.
  • Ensure contracted work meets organizational standards, regulatory requirements, project timelines, and budget expectations.
  • Coordinate maintenance and project activities to minimize disruption to members, staff, and programs.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and senior leadership on facility conditions, capital investments, operational risks, and emerging needs.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and project updates for leadership and the Facilities Committee.
  • Maintain accurate information regarding facility assets, deferred maintenance, capital projects, and organizational priorities.
  • Collaborate with municipal officials, community stakeholders, and external partners on facility-related matters.
  • Lead initiatives focused on energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable operations, and responsible resource management.
  • Identify opportunities for building system upgrades, operating efficiencies, and long-term cost savings.
  • Evaluate available incentives, grants, and emerging practices that may support facility improvements.
  • Establish and track sustainability goals and communicate progress to organizational leadership.
