About The Position

This recruitment series is to fill one open position within the Facilities Custodian team in the Public Works Department. To be considered qualified, an applicant must meet the minimum requirements for one of the following three levels of the Facilities Custodian positions. Performs custodial duties to maintain all City buildings including City Hall, the Public Works complex, the Police Department, Wastewater Complex, and other City buildings as needed. This position may be required to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, or GED equivalent, plus twelve (12) months verifiable work experience in commercial custodian work (for Custodian I).
  • High school diploma, or GED equivalent, plus three (3) years verifiable work experience in commercial custodian work (for Custodian II).
  • High school diploma, or GED equivalent, plus five (5) years verifiable work experience in commercial custodian work (for Custodian III).
  • Must have knowledge of supplies, materials and equipment used in commercial custodial work and commercial facilities maintenance.
  • Understand and execute complex oral and written instructions; express ideas and convey information effectively, orally and in writing; maintain confidentiality; deal effectively with frequent interruptions and several situations at one time; establish priorities and organize own workload; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, public and private offices, and the general public; and effectively use business telephone etiquette.
  • Possession of, or required to obtain within thirty (30) days from date of hire, a valid Oregon driver’s license.
  • Must have a safe driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years or more verifiable custodian work experience (for Custodian I desirable).
  • Two (2) years or more verifiable commercial custodian work experience (for Custodian I desirable).
  • Eighteen (18) months or more verifiable work experience in a City/County government setting (for Custodian I desirable).
  • Knowledge of facilities maintenance (for Custodian I desirable).
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain First Aid / CPR certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Four (4) years or more verifiable custodian and facilities maintenance work experience (for Custodian II desirable).
  • Four (4) years or more verifiable commercial custodian and facilities maintenance work experience (for Custodian II desirable).
  • Two (2) years verifiable work experience in a City/County government setting (for Custodian II desirable).
  • Six (6) years or more verifiable custodian and facilities maintenance work experience (for Custodian III desirable).
  • Six (6) years or more verifiable commercial custodian and facilities maintenance work experience (for Custodian III desirable).
  • Four (4) years’ verifiable work experience in a City/County government setting (for Custodian III desirable).
  • Extensive knowledge of facilities maintenance (for Custodian III desirable).

Responsibilities

  • Cleans floors and carpeting; washes interior and exterior windows and glass doors; sanitizes all rest rooms and breakrooms; picks up and removes trash and recyclables; cleans furniture; dusts all surfaces; washes walls.
  • Performs minor maintenance duties on occasion at City of Redmond locations to include interior and exterior paint touchups, replacing lightbulbs, and minor landscaping duties (weeding plant beds).
  • Performs winter maintenance duties on occasion at City of Redmond locations. May remove snow from sidewalks or sand walkways when icy conditions occur.
  • Promotes an effective, responsive, and value-based organizational culture.
  • Champions the values of the City through example and accountability.
  • Operate a City vehicle regularly to perform custodial and maintenance duties in various City buildings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
