About The Position

Responsible for cleaning buildings, office facilities, and surrounding areas. As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class. Work assignments may vary depending on the department’s need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor. May plan, organize, supervise, and occasionally participate in the work of custodial workers; Engages in cleaning of buildings, office facilities, and surrounding areas; Trains and instructs custodial workers in proper methods and procedures of custodial work and infection control techniques; Inspects completed work to ensure conformance to accepted standards; May supervise and participate in loading, unloading, and moving supplies, equipment, and furniture; Orders and maintains an inventory of various custodial equipment and supplies; Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports; Prepares cleaning and disinfectant solutions and ensures proper disposal; May perform more difficult maintenance tasks; May inspect equipment to determine needs for new parts, repairs, overhauls, and replacements; May distribute and collect keys and/or pagers; May be assigned to work in a jail or detention center.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of commercial, institutional, or industrial custodial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
  • Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.
  • One year of experience with Pima County as a Custodian I or closely related classification as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
  • Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application.
  • Valid driver license is required at time of application.
  • Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment.
  • The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures.
  • Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination.
  • Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.
  • Certain positions may also require an Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) regular Clearance Card at the time of appointment.
  • Maintaining this certification is required as a condition of employment.
  • Failure to maintain the appropriate DPS Clearance Card, if required, may result in termination.
  • The ability to obtain jail pass is required.
  • The County requires pre-employment background checks.
  • Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history.
  • Some positions may require satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by court or law enforcement agencies, due to the need for access to County Attorney and Court facilities, records, and communication systems.
  • Certain positions may be assigned to work with the Sheriff's Department in a jail or detention center, which may involve direct inmate contact.
  • In accordance with Department of Labor Regulation CFR Part 1910.1030, some positions may have a moderate risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • As per OSHA and Pima County guidelines, Hepatitis B vaccination, tuberculosis screening, respiratory protection training, safety equipment, and personal protective clothing will be provided.
  • This position will require a post-job offer physical and/or drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one (1) year of commercial janitorial experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year of commercial floor care processes and related equipment.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience with commercial landscape inspection and processes.
  • Minimum one (1) year of commercial pest control inspections and processes.
