About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a Facilities Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly facility. This role involves routine cleaning, sanitation, and basic maintenance tasks throughout the building and surrounding areas. The custodian will ensure spaces are properly maintained, safe, and welcoming for staff, visitors, and program participants, while adhering to established health, safety, and organizational procedures. This position is part of the Operations & Facilities Services department and reports to the Operations Manager.

Requirements

  • Able to work with hand tools and small power tools as needed.
  • Able to handle various types of equipment- buffing machine, vacuum, leaf blower, lawn mower, etc.
  • Must treat all people with compassion and respect.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and appropriate intervention skills within The Salvation Army required.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and be able to drive for The Salvation Army.
  • Must be passionate about the Mission of The Salvation Army and the Vision of the Chambersburg Corps.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Must possess an understanding of and support the mission of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly facility by performing routine cleaning, sanitation, and basic maintenance tasks.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms and common areas.
  • Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors.
  • Removing trash and recycling.
  • Replenishing supplies.
  • Assisting with room setup and breakdown for meetings or events.
  • Monitoring building conditions.
  • Reporting maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Supporting minor facility upkeep.
  • Performing daily custodial services, floor care, room setup for programs and events, exterior grounds maintenance, and basic facility support.
  • Assisting with inventory management, vehicle support, minor maintenance projects, and seasonal responsibilities, including the annual Christmas campaign.
  • Creating an environment that reflects excellence, hospitality, and care for all who enter the facility.
  • Supporting the overall mission and daily operations of The Salvation Army.
  • Upholding the mission and values of the organization, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, respect, and a servant's heart in all interactions.
