About The Position

The Facilities Construction Senior Manager leads Joby's in-house construction services team and manages in-house construction projects from quote through closeout. The role connects in-house construction delivery with the Facilities Development PMO, directing work priorities, allocating crew and equipment resources, making build-in-house versus subcontract decisions, and maintaining accountability for budgets and deliverables across concurrent projects. It combines hands-on project management with team leadership and provides construction-phase support and mentorship to PMO project managers at other sites. The position is responsible for team development and resource planning; project delivery and construction-phase advice; budget, schedule, and quality accountability; and the use of PMO systems and standards. It ensures construction work complies with applicable codes, permits, safety requirements, and internal standards.

  • Demonstrated success in direct people management, leading skilled-trades crews, superintendents, or construction project staff.
  • Proven ability to prioritize competing portfolio demands, allocate constrained crew and equipment resources, and hold teams accountable to budgets and schedules.
  • Strong project management fundamentals, including scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, change control, and subcontractor management.
  • Proficiency in fully loaded cost analysis and labor cost accounting for build-versus-subcontract decisions.
  • Disciplined data practices using tools such as Smartsheet, MS Project, Procore, or Bluebeam.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Professional certifications such as PMP, CCM, CSLB license, or similar.
  • Experience working in fast-growing or highly regulated environments.

Responsibilities

  • Directly lead, manage, and develop the in-house construction team, including construction project staff, site superintendents, and skilled trades.
  • Schedule jobs to avoid conflicts and allocate people and equipment across concurrent projects based on crew availability.
  • Make and defend build-versus-buy decisions using fully loaded labor cost accounting, including travel, per diem, and opportunity cost.
  • Establish crew-utilization visibility to inform staffing, backfill, and delivery decisions.
  • Manage in-house construction projects from quote solicitation and vendor vetting through mobilization and closeout.
  • Advise and mentor PMO project managers on constructability, sequencing, means and methods, and cost during construction.
  • Provide construction-phase support and coverage for projects at other sites as bandwidth allows.
  • Directly manage select projects end-to-end as portfolio workload requires.
  • Maintain accountability for budgets, standards, and delivery quality across the in-house construction portfolio.
  • Reconcile each in-house project budget weekly against current invoices, committed costs, and forecasts.
  • Drive deliverables to closure, prioritize open spend, close out completed projects, and coordinate capital transfers with Business & Finance.
  • Partner with construction project finance on invoice tracking, PR/PO hygiene, and funding status in Smartsheet.
  • Execute within PMO standards using Joby's Smartsheet/Control Center backbone as the source of truth.
