About The Position

Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake is seeking an experienced Facilities & Construction Manager to oversee facility maintenance, repair operations, and construction projects across our retail stores, donation centers, corporate offices, and other properties throughout Central Maryland and the Eastern Shore. This role combines facilities management, team leadership, vendor coordination, and project management responsibilities. The Facilities & Construction Manager supervises Facilities Technicians, manages contractors, and leads new store openings, renovations, remodels, and capital improvement projects that support Goodwill's continued growth. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, construction project experience, and the ability to manage multiple priorities across a diverse portfolio of locations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum five years of experience in facilities, maintenance, construction, or building operations
  • Minimum two years of experience managing construction, renovation, remodel, or capital improvement projects
  • Minimum two years of supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Valid Maryland driver's license
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building systems
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents
  • Knowledge of commercial construction practices, building codes, ADA requirements, and OSHA safety standards
  • Experience developing budgets, evaluating bids, negotiating contracts, and managing project costs
  • Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize work across multiple sites and competing deadlines
  • Experience supervising technical and maintenance personnel
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and maintenance/work-order management systems
  • Strong communication and vendor management skills
  • Ability to operate maintenance equipment, power tools, lifts, and other facility-related equipment safely

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Facilities Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Support the Facilities Director in overseeing maintenance and repair operations across multiple retail and corporate locations
  • Supervise Facilities Technicians, assign work orders, monitor productivity, and ensure repairs are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule
  • Develop and maintain systems for managing maintenance requests, work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, and service records
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance programs for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofing, life-safety, and building systems
  • Perform hands-on repairs and maintenance as needed, including carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, plumbing, and basic electrical work
  • Manage construction, renovation, and store refresh projects from planning through completion
  • Coordinate architects, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and internal stakeholders to ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget
  • Review contractor proposals, negotiate pricing, evaluate vendor performance, and recommend contractor selections
  • Develop project budgets, cost estimates, schedules, and change order documentation
  • Coordinate permitting, inspections, zoning approvals, and project closeout activities
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure quality workmanship, code compliance, safety standards, and adherence to project specifications
  • Coordinate fixture, equipment, and material deliveries for new store openings and renovation projects
  • Partner with Retail Operations, Real Estate, and leadership teams to ensure project readiness and successful store openings
  • Conduct facility safety inspections and address repair needs, safety concerns, and regulatory compliance issues
  • Provide emergency response and on-call support for facility-related issues
  • Manage landlord responsibilities for Goodwill-owned properties occupied by tenants, including maintenance obligations and tenant communications
  • Monitor maintenance budgets, supply inventories, project costs, and contractor expenses
  • Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, construction, and project records
  • Perform other duties as assigned
