About The Position

Gelest, Inc., part of the Mitsubishi Chemical Group, is hiring a Facilities & Chemical Systems Coordinator to join our team in Morrisville, PA. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to our mission of delivering innovative specialty chemical solutions to customers worldwide. The Facilities & Chemical Systems Coordinator is responsible for supporting the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the R&D Buildings 4 & 5 domain. This role serves as a critical coordination point for laboratory infrastructure, chemical inventory systems, safety activities, and operational compliance within an active research and development environment. The position is responsible for monitoring facility-related maintenance activities, coordinating infrastructure support efforts, managing laboratory chemical and consumable inventory systems, supporting DEACOM inventory accuracy and chemical order compliance processes, and leading building-level safety coordination initiatives. The role partners closely with R&D, EHS, Maintenance facilities, Procurement, and Operations stakeholders to reduce operational risk, improve laboratory readiness, and support safe research execution within infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Health & Safety, Facilities Management, Operations, Supply Chain, or related discipline preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting laboratory operations, facilities coordination, chemical inventory management, EHS programs, or related technical environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory chemical handling, storage, and inventory management practices.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and regulatory requirements within chemical or laboratory environments.
  • Experience with ERP, inventory management, or laboratory chemical tracking systems required; DEACOM experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with chemical approval workflows, SDS management, and laboratory compliance documentation preferred.
  • Experience coordinating maintenance activities, vendor support, or facilities-related work requests preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and inventory or tracking systems.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong partnership with technical and operational stakeholders.
  • Must be able to work in laboratory and chemical processing environments while utilizing required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, respirators, and safety shoes as necessary.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional off-shift support may be required for facility outages, or scheduled maintenance coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and monitor scheduled maintenance activities and facility-related work orders for Buildings 4 & 5 infrastructure.
  • Partner with Maintenance facilities, EHS, and R&D teams to support timely resolution of infrastructure concerns, including laboratory utilities, building systems, and reliability-related issues.
  • Track and communicate status updates related to maintenance requests, corrective actions, and operational disruptions.
  • Oversee chemical, glassware, laboratory consumables, and related inventory systems to ensure inventory accuracy, availability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain and support accuracy of chemical and laboratory inventory records within DEACOM and related inventory management systems.
  • Coordinate compliance review and tracking for new chemical orders to ensure alignment with safety, regulatory, and operational approval requirements prior to procurement and use within the R&D environment.
  • Partner with Procurement, EHS, Maintenance facilities, and laboratory stakeholders to ensure chemical inventory transactions, storage locations, and usage records remain current and compliant.
  • Monitor aging, expired, excess, or overstocked chemical inventory and coordinate proper disposition activities in partnership with EHS and laboratory stakeholders.
  • Support periodic inventory audits, reconciliation activities, and corrective actions related to chemical tracking and laboratory materials management.
  • Assist with implementation and continuous improvement of inventory control processes to reduce excess chemical storage, aging inventory, and operational risk exposure.
  • Serve as a lead coordinator for Buildings 4 & 5 safety initiatives, including emergency preparedness activities and first response coordination.
  • Partner to schedule and coordinate safety training activities, emergency drills, and building-specific safety exercises.
  • Support incident response coordination, corrective action tracking, and follow-up activities as required.
  • Conduct routine laboratory and facility walkthroughs to identify safety, housekeeping, storage, or infrastructure concerns.
  • Assist with implementation and continuous improvement of laboratory operational procedures, safety systems, and inventory management practices.
  • Maintain documentation and records associated with maintenance activities, inspections, safety programs, inventory systems, and compliance activities.
  • Support cross-functional communication between R&D, Maintenance facilities, Operations, Procurement, and EHS stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
