UCT is looking for a talented Production Lead – (CNC) to join our Austin, TX Products organization. The Production Lead serves as a working lead within the CNC machining and welding area, supporting daily production execution and acting as a bridge between operators, supervisors, and engineering. This role helps coordinate work assignments, monitors quality and throughput, supports troubleshooting of manufacturing issues, and ensures all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with procedures and drawings.

Requirements

  • Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, welding, or CNC machining environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or guide operators/technicians in a production setting.
  • Strong understanding of shop safety, quality control, and standard work.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Basic computer literacy (production systems, documentation, Microsoft tools).
  • Minimum High school diploma or GED.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading teams in CNC machining or weld/fabrication shops.
  • Hands-on knowledge of machining processes, welding methods, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, or continuous improvement methods.
  • Experience assisting with production metrics, KPIs, or daily management systems.
  • Background supporting NPI, first-article builds, or engineering changes.
  • Associate degree or technical coursework in Manufacturing, Machining, Welding, or Industrial Technology.
  • CNC machining or welding certifications/training.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or safety training.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support daily production activities within the CNC machining and weld shop, including work assignment, job sequencing, and flow management.
  • Serve as a technical and operational resource for CNC operators and welders during production.
  • Ensure adherence to safety policies, PPE requirements, and hazardous material handling procedures.
  • Monitor production output to ensure quality, schedule, and efficiency targets are met.
  • Verify that work is performed according to engineering drawings, work instructions, and quality requirements.
  • Assist Production Supervisor with identifying capacity constraints, manpower needs, and priority changes.
  • Support troubleshooting of machining, welding, fixturing, or process issues in partnership with Engineering.
  • Review in-process and completed work for conformance; escalate quality issues as needed.
  • Support and help deliver on-the-job training for operators and technicians.
  • Participate in daily production meetings, shift handoffs, and safety discussions.
  • Document production, safety, quality, and equipment issues and escalate to the Production Supervisor.
  • Track and support key production metrics (output, scrap, rework, downtime).
  • Identify and recommend continuous improvement opportunities related to safety, quality, workflow, and efficiency (Lean, Kaizen, 5S).
  • Coordinate effectively with Engineering, Quality, Materials, Planning, and Maintenance teams.
  • Perform hands-on work as needed to support production demands.
