About The Position

The Fabrication Helper assists the fabrication department and machine operators with fabrication duties. The role includes handling materials and parts, finishing fabricated components, assembling products according to specifications, assisting with testing completed products, and keeping the work area clean and organized. The position requires the ability to follow simple written and oral instructions and perform physical work in an environment with moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; one to three months of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and memos, as well as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information one-on-one to other employees.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including regularly lifting or moving up to 75 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist other machine operators with fabrication duties.
• Unload materials, parts, or products onto or from lasers, pallets, skids, conveyors, or trucks, and identify each load with the job number.
• Load fabricated parts into a tumbler and remove them after the designated time period.
• Apply rust preventative to fabricated parts when necessary.
• Remove burrs or excess metal from fabricated parts.
• Plan assembly procedures following specifications.
• Drill, tap, or ream holes.
• Align components and bolt, screw, or rivet them together.
• Test or assist in testing the operation of completed products.
• Clean and organize the work area.
