About The Position

Metalenz is seeking a Fabrication and Process Engineer to support prototyping activities for our metasurface-based optical components and devices. This position is a hands-on role in the wafer fab, building devices for internal and external customers. You will work closely with a small team of process engineers, and also collaborate closely with our design and metrology groups. The role involves working in a shared-user clean-room using microelectronic fabrication techniques, including direct-write electron beam lithography, plasma deposition and etch, and operating optical aligners and e-beam exposure tools. You will also provide SEM characterization data for device yield improvement and have the opportunity to learn the full suite of process and metrology tools. The majority of the workday (about 75%) will be spent in the cleanroom, with the remainder dedicated to meetings, planning experiments, and equipment reservations.

Requirements

  • PhD or MS in appropriate engineering discipline (electrical, chemical, materials engineering, physics, etc)
  • Direct hands-on experience in semiconductor wafer processing, including: electron beam lithography (EBL), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), photolithography, resist coating, developing, inspection, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), reactive ion etching (RIE), optical ellipsometry
  • Substantial experience with wafer fabrication tools and techniques
  • Able to design experiments and draw conclusions
  • Anticipates and resolves problems independently

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in statistical analysis of raw data is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Build metasurface wafers to support Metalenz’s PolarID sensing products
  • Work in a shared-user clean-room using microelectronic fabrication techniques
  • Use direct-write electron beam lithography to fabricate nanostructures
  • Develop materials and processes for prototyping sub-micron semiconductor optical devices
  • Operate optical aligners and e-beam exposure tools
  • Plasma deposition and etch
  • Provide SEM characterization data for device yield improvement
  • Have the opportunity to learn the full suite of process and metrology tools
  • Collaborate closely with Metalenz design and metrology teams on new designs and products
  • Work in cleanroom fabrication for about 75% of the workday. Remainder attending meetings with colleagues from Metalenz design and metrology teams, planning experiments and equipment reservations, etc.
