About The Position

The Fab Shop Small Equipment Operator is responsible for operating small equipment in a fabrication shop environment. This role actively supports the company's commitment to safety and core values, adhering to a strict code of business conduct. The operator will read job specifications, make machine adjustments, position workpieces, monitor operations for defects or malfunctions, and measure workpieces for accuracy. Identifying and correcting safety hazards, cleaning the work area, and working collaboratively with peers and supervision are also key aspects of the role. Regular and reliable attendance is required, along with performing other job-related duties as assigned by supervision.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate 3 out of 5 small pieces of equipment (All Saws, Small Press Brake, Iron Workers, Shears, Manual/Torch Bevel Machines) with minimum supervision and minimal errors
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings
  • Legible printing/handwriting skills
  • Ability to read a tape measure

Responsibilities

  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
  • Positions workpiece: sets, stops, guides piece according to specifications
  • Observes machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction
  • Measures workpiece dimension to determine accuracy of machine operation
  • Identifies safety hazards and takes corrective action
  • Cleans up material and debris after completing each job
  • Works well with peers and supervision
  • Performs all other job-related duties as requested by supervision
