About The Position

Petco is seeking relief veterinarians to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Flexible online scheduling allows veterinarians to choose shifts that fit their lifestyle, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts. Weekday and weekend hours are available, and veterinarians set their own rate for each shift. They may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and no agency fees apply. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgeries, emergency care, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units.

Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic surgery tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Licensed and trained hospital staff support care, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts. Relief veterinarians must meet applicable licensing and compliance requirements. Petco also offers a 15% discount on its products and services.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
• State veterinary license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all functions of the shift, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary services during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
