About The Position

This placement opportunity is designed to provide comprehensive training and experience within various departments of a hotel, with a primary focus on Food and Beverage operations. The program includes an initial orientation phase, followed by hands-on experience as a Server/Host, Barista, and Supervisor within the Food and Beverage department. The goal is to equip participants with industry-standard knowledge, practical skills, and customer service expertise in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 months work-integrated learning experience in a 4-5 star hotel/fine dining restaurant.
  • Diploma in Hospitality Management NQF 5 and above.
  • Demonstrated consistency in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Receive orientation to the company, local community, payroll, and computer systems.
  • Learn opening and closing duties of front-of-house Food and Beverage service in a three-meal period hotel restaurant operation as a Server and Host.
  • Recognize industry standards, required health codes, and safe practices.
  • Understand menu flow, restaurant theme, and restaurant technology (e.g., Open Table, MICROS point-of-sale system).
  • Manage large volumes of people, anticipate and address guest needs.
  • Learn and apply upselling techniques.
  • Control guest checks and process payments.
  • Record and track food and beverage requests and payments using the point-of-sale system.
  • Ensure service standards are met and handle guest complaints to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Prioritize, organize, and follow up on guest requests and needs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Master the craft of making specialty coffee beverages to a high standard, including understanding coffee beans, roasts, brewing methods, grind size, espresso extraction, milk steaming, and latte art.
  • Handle various customer requests and preferences efficiently as a Barista.
  • Learn opening and/or closing duties of the Barista role.
  • Supervise outlet service staff.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of quality standards.
  • Interact with guests to ensure a positive guest experience.
  • Ensure meals are served professionally and timely by communicating with kitchen and service staff.
  • Handle guest complaints as a Supervisor.
  • Ensure availability of manpower, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist in hiring, scheduling, and supervision of cashiers, supervisors, greeters, servers, and bus attendants.
  • Conduct pre-meal meetings and training of employees.
  • Assist the team to enhance the guest experience in service when required.
