About The Position

The Extrusion Operator will be responsible for operating extruders and repel lines with minimal supervision. This role involves ensuring product quality, completing necessary documentation, reporting machine malfunctions, and adhering to food safety standards (SQF, GMP). The operator will work under the guidance of the Shift Supervisor, with final approval from the Extrusion Manager or Assistant Production Manager.

Requirements

Ability to operate on any of the Extruders and repel lines generally unassisted.
Able to communicate quality issues.
Complete required documentation, e.g., profile and daily material reports.
Report machine malfunctions.
Ensure good quality sheet.
Stationary standing: 100% of the shift.
Walking: 60% of the shift.
Touching/Handling Product: 100% of the shift.
Sitting: 5% of the shift.
Using Controls/Tools: 10% of the shift.
Reaching-(Hand & Arm): 75% of the shift.
Shifting/Twisting/Rotating core: 100% of the shift.
Climb or Balances: 5% of the shift.
Stoop, Kneel, Crouch or Crawl: 10% of the shift.
Talk or hear: 100% of the shift.
Smell: 5% of the shift.
Ability to lift 25 pounds/Max.
Ability to move foam rolls: 450 pounds.
Employees may wear corrective lenses (with protective safety over glasses) PPE or use our Safety Prescription Program.
Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

Learn and operate all extruders within defined specifications without assistance.
Recognize heating/cooling problems on all machines and report any issues immediately.
Start up and shut down all extruders unassisted.
Assist in "stringing up" all extruders unassisted.
Complete job/color changes with minimal scrap.
Perform adjustments to die.
Monitor feed and mixing systems for proper operation.
Correct formulas and rates for each product type.
Match and distinguish colors from samples.
Produce good tight rolls.
Produce each roll to correct width and gauge.
Use a fire extinguisher.
Climb heights up to 60 feet to report silo readings and material held in each silo.
Get assistance to resolve any issues to get machine back in operation.
Maintain well-rounded knowledge of the quality of all products.
Keep all areas free of debris (Housekeeping).
Adhere to and follow all SQF/GMP and Food Safety standards.
Report on any food safety issues to Supervisor/Manager.
Clean filters and vacuum pumps and dryers.
Grind all scrap products.
Monitor Repel Line and keep operational throughout shift.
Understand silo readings, verify, and document all silo readings.
Record correct measurements, weight, date, and shift on each roll produced and then move to extrusion roll staging area properly and safely.
Complete required paperwork accurately, neatly and per Plant Sanitation specifications.
Maintain raw material hoppers/containers to ensure continuous production run during the shift from Extrusion Mezzanine and refill as needed.
Comply with all safety rules, regulations, and policy procedures.
Report any unsafe practices and/or conditions to their supervisor.
Maintain floor safety discipline by interceding with fellow employees who may engage in rule violations and/or unsafe, unhealthy activities.
Communicate to Management those employees who persist in violations of safety rules and/or procedures.
Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) properly and report any defective PPE.
Report all near misses, accidents, injuries, including Muscular Skeletal symptoms or disorders.
