About The Position

The Extruder Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, adjusting, testing, and maintaining extruder and header equipment. This role involves maintaining a quality check log, completing daily production reports, and communicating any quality, material, or production issues to the supervisor. The operator is also responsible for keeping the work area clean and orderly and routing scrap to the appropriate place.

Requirements

English literate (speak, write and read).
Competent with basic math operations.
Mechanical ability and understanding.
Able to make adjustments to meet parts specifications.
Able to use micrometers, calipers, industrial microscope, rulers, etc.
Knows molds, sizes, shapes, and thread standards.
Knowledge of good manufacturing standards for plastic tubes.
Able to detect equipment malfunctions or misalignments visually and by hearing machine noise.
Ability to work in and promote a team environment.
1 – 2 years recent experience as a machine operator in the plastic industry or similar manufacturing environment.
High School diploma or GED certificate; or Tenth grade education equivalent plus 3 – 4 years applicable experience.

Responsibilities

Set up, operate, adjust, test, and maintain extruder and header equipment.
Maintain quality check log and complete production reports daily.
Communicate quality, material, and production issues to supervisor.
Keep work area clean and orderly and route scrap to the appropriate place.
Procure all applicable tooling upon receiving a job order.
Set up the machine to accommodate job orders and specs.
Conduct ongoing visual inspection of the machine for leaks, loose belts, etc., according to a checklist.
Make adjustments as needed to meet customer specifications.
Continuously check for compliance to customer specs and quality standards on a random basis.
Identify and promptly report equipment malfunctions, material, safety, or quality issues to supervisors.
Complete forms, documents, and QA measurements per production run.
Perform line clearance procedures in the event of a product change.
Comply with company personnel and safety policies and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Perform special projects and assignments as directed by supervisory personnel.
