About The Position

The Recycling Extruder Operator / Prisma Sorting Operator operates, monitors, and maintains recycling process equipment, including Prisma optical sorting systems and plastic extrusion equipment. The position helps ensure material quality, production efficiency, safety compliance, and accurate documentation throughout the recycling process.

The operator sets up, starts, operates, and shuts down recycling extruders; monitors process conditions and product quality; and adjusts processes to meet production and quality targets. The role also involves material changeovers, routine inspections and quality checks, production documentation, safe equipment practices, and maintaining a clean work area. Reasonable mandatory overtime may be required due to business needs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• 1–3 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Ability to recommend process improvements.
• Commitment to safe work practices.
• Solid English language skills.
• Desire to learn.

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s degree.
• Apprenticeship and/or formal training in the area of specialty.

Responsibilities

• Set up, start up, operate, and shut down recycling extruders according to standard operating procedures.
• Monitor temperatures, pressures, melt quality, throughput rates, and pellet quality.
• Adjust processes to maintain production and quality targets.
• Perform material changeovers and startup purges.
• Inspect pellets and finished products for quality defects.
• Record production data, downtime, quality checks, and material usage.
• Verify incoming material meets processing requirements.
• Conduct routine quality checks and document results.
• Segregate non-conforming material and notify supervision.
• Support continuous improvement efforts to reduce contamination and waste.
• Follow company safety policies and procedures.
• Use required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and safety footwear.
• Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures before servicing equipment.
• Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents immediately.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
