About The Position

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Cornell University is seeking an Extension Support Specialist IV for the Department of Food Science. This role will be part of the dairy extension program and will provide leadership for the certificate program, focusing on marketing, development of strategic partnerships, and new programs including AI and sanitation. The goal is to develop a sustainable financial model for the position through the certificate program and grants, with a target of 50% external funding by the end of year 2 and 100% by the end of year 3. The ideal candidate will have expertise in food safety, marketing to food companies, and AI, and will contribute to economic development in the New York dairy and food industry. This is a full-time, one-year term appointment with the opportunity to work remotely within New York State. The position also emphasizes fostering a culture of belonging and a healthy work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or closely related discipline
  • More than 5 but less than 7 year’s experience and/or equivalent combination of both education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of food industry and food safety
  • Strong knowledge of applications of AI and digital tools in the food industry
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel at least 25% of the time
  • Expertise in the development, delivery, and evaluation of training programs
  • Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted NYS driver’s license and be cleared to drive for university business
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to adjust quickly to change and changing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work with diverse audiences in group and one-on-one settings; working effectively with industry, economic development groups, advisory boards and committees, community and funding partners and other stakeholders
  • Proven organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills
  • Fundamental competence utilizing current technology as a management and program delivery tool (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Internet and Web development)
  • Proven experience identifying and obtaining new funding including grants and industry support
  • Prior budgetary experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for the certificate program, including program oversight with a focus on marketing and development of strategic partnerships, and new programs, including, but not limited to, AI and sanitation.
  • Develop a sustainable financial model that provides full support for this position through the certificate program (e.g., through workshop income, grants etc.) and, if necessary, through development and submission of grants that will support this position.
  • Actively contribute to economic development activities focused in the dairy and food industry in New York.
  • Interpret and communicate applied research and demonstration projects.
  • Cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Work evenings and weekends as essential job functions require.
  • Identify and obtain new funding including grants and industry support.
  • Manage budgets.
