About The Position

As the Washington State University (WSU) Extension Whatcom County Master Gardener Program Coordinator, you will provide overall leadership and management of the Master Gardener program in Whatcom County. You will work to empower volunteers to educate the public and respond to questions about home gardening. You will recruit, train, lead, coordinate, and support more than 100 WSU-trained volunteers to serve the community. You will establish and maintain a network of empowered, effectively led teams to carry out program activities. You will collaborate with the Whatcom County Master Gardener Foundation, volunteers, office staff, and the county director to ensure a strong, well-funded program that aligns with WSU policies and meets deliverables set by Whatcom County Health and Community Services. You will also prepare briefings and written reports for the university, the foundation, elected officials, and other funders on program outcomes and impacts.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
  • Ability to travel within targeted counties.
  • Ability to work a flexible, yet structured, schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively, with persons of varying levels of responsibility and experience, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and Workday.
  • Knowledge of WSU Business Policies and Procedures in the areas of personnel, finance, and administration.
  • Experience in higher education, local or state agency, or equivalent.
