About The Position

The Extended Services Intern supports the International Rescue Committee’s intensive case management (ICM), extended case management (ECM), and Services for Older Refugees (SOR) programs in Baltimore. The role assists with daily activities that support the long-term integration of refugees, asylees, and other humanitarian immigrants. Work includes supporting vulnerable clients—particularly medically vulnerable clients—and connecting them with healthcare, education, and psychosocial resources that support their individual goals. The internship combines office, remote, and field work in the greater Baltimore area. The ICM and SOR work supports clients including single-headed refugee households, survivors of domestic violence, older refugees, youth and young adults without parents or permanent guardians, and refugees experiencing mental health or psychological difficulties, physical disabilities, or medical conditions. Interns work with clients, colleagues, and external parties to develop service plans based on individual needs and preferences, and to connect clients with financial, medical, social, vocational, and other services in accordance with eligibility and program requirements. The internship runs for 14 weeks, from the week of January 27, 2027, through May 16, 2027, and requires at least 15 hours per week. Interns should be able to attend the office at least three days per week. A required orientation is scheduled for January 27, 2027. The internship is unpaid; university credit may be arranged. Eligible interns may receive a $15-per-day per diem, defined as 7.5 hours, to offset food and travel costs, and may be reimbursed for mileage for approved activities.
