About The Position

The Export Controls Analyst supports DePuy Synthes’ global trade compliance program by helping ensure that international shipments, transactions, and business activities comply with applicable export control laws and regulations. This role plays a critical part in protecting the company’s ability to operate globally by enabling compliant trade, mitigating regulatory risk, and supporting business continuity across manufacturing and supply chain operations. The position offers exposure to global regulations and cross‑functional collaboration within a highly regulated medical technology environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in export controls, global trade compliance, or a related regulatory/compliance function.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. export control regulations (e.g., EAR) and global trade compliance concepts.
  • Familiarity with global trade management or restricted party screening systems.
  • Experience reviewing transactional data and documentation for regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Understanding international supply chain and logistics processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a regulated, process‑driven environment.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and communicate compliance requirements clearly.
  • Proficiency with standard business systems and tools (e.g., ERP systems, Microsoft Office).
  • English (additional languages a plus).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting export controls within a manufacturing, life sciences, or medical device environment.
  • Experience participating in audits or regulatory assessments.
  • Trade compliance or export controls certifications preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support day‑to‑day export controls activities, including restricted party screening, export classification, transaction reviews, and escalation of potential compliance concerns.
  • Perform and support export control classifications, including ECCN determinations for products, technology, software, documentation, and related technical data.
  • Review international shipment documentation, system transactions, and export records to confirm adherence to U.S. export control requirements, company policies, and recordkeeping standards.
  • Support commercial distribution export activities, including Mooresville ship‑from operations and global distribution processes for DePuy Synthes products.
  • Support export operations for non‑commercial shipments, including distribution flows, samples, returns, demos, and other controlled export scenarios.
  • Coordinate with screening service providers, SaaS licensing platforms, and license management vendors to support effective restricted party screening and export compliance controls.
  • Assist with export licensing activities, including Russia sanctions licensing reviews, license determinations, documentation preparation, and tracking of license conditions or limitations.
  • Research, document, and escalate export risk issues related to transactions, destinations, end users, end uses, product classifications, or sanctions requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain export compliance records, including screening evidence, classification rationale, license documentation, shipment support, and audit-ready files.
  • Support AES filings and post‑export value adjustments by reviewing data accuracy, coordinating corrections, and maintaining documentation for compliance and reporting purposes.
  • Partner with supply chain, logistics, distribution, legal, quality, IT, and business stakeholders to resolve export‑related questions and improve compliance execution.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including process documentation, metrics, training materials, audit support, corrective actions, and control enhancements.
