The Office for Research Security and Export Controls (ORSEC) is housed within the Division for Research, and it has a campus-wide mission to ensure export control and research security compliance. By working with researchers across campus and with external partners, it forges key relationships that allow for the research enterprise at The University of Alabama to achieve next-level results. ORSEC supports the University’s mission of teaching, research, and service by ensuring compliance with applicable export control and research security laws, regulations, and University and governmental policies, while fostering an environment supportive of its efforts to cultivate a campus-wide global perspective and extend its outreach on a worldwide scale. This position works with the Executive Director to implement and manage an effective University-wide export compliance program and related processes and a robust research security program. Moreover they serve as a point of contact for internal and external inquiries regarding compliance with export control regulations (Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), sanctions programs administered by the U.S. Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC), and other related efforts on research security matters (e.g., the University’s classified research program, compliance with National Security Presidential Memorandum 33 (“NSPM-33”) and other federal regulations, and efforts to prevent malign foreign influence. Helps lead the implementation of campus-wide policies and procedures related to all relevant export control and research security regulations.
