About The Position

As an Exploratory Software Engineer Intern at Lowe’s, you’ll work on emerging technologies and innovative ideas that could shape the future of retail technology. This role is designed for curious and experimental minds interested in prototyping solutions, testing new frameworks, and exploring disruptive technologies such as AI/ML, AR/VR, computer vision, and IoT. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring ideas from concept to code, and you'll play a vital role in our commitment to continuous innovation. This is an opportunity to explore the unknown, fail fast, and learn faster, all while gaining exposure to how innovation is driven at an enterprise scale. Our 10-week summer internship program (May 24 – July 30, 2027) immerses you in real-world retail operations. You'll work directly with industry experts across our stores, distribution centers, and corporate offices, gaining practical experience through hands-on projects that make meaningful contributions to our business and communities.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Data Science, or related field.
  • Expected graduation dates of December 2028, May 2029, December 2029, or May 2030.

Nice To Haves

  • 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Curiosity for emerging technologies and a passion for innovation
  • Familiarity with one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, C#, Kotlin)
  • Exposure to innovation frameworks such as design thinking, agile development, or rapid prototyping
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills
  • Previous internship or project experience in a creative or technical environment is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Prototype experimental software solutions using modern languages and platforms (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Swift, Unity).
  • Explore innovative applications of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, computer vision, and augmented reality.
  • Learn and apply design thinking and rapid prototyping methodologies to validate ideas quickly.
  • Collaborate in innovation sprints with engineers, designers, and product managers.
  • Present findings and demo prototypes to key stakeholders, gaining visibility and feedback.
  • Understand how innovation is fostered in a corporate tech environment and contribute to shaping future products and services.
