Job Description The position reports directly to the Head of PROPULSION domain in the Mirabel design office. In this expert role, you will be called upon to review and assess aspects of the A220 engine’s technical maturity for design proposals, certification strategies, identify risks and opportunities as well as evaluate trade-offs considering environmental factors. You will also support critical investigations and represent the discipline across different Airbus programs for expertise and lessons learned sharing. You will coordinate with the Airbus Propulsion expert community to ensure best practices and maintain engineering manuals. As a senior member of the team, the role will also consist of supporting the engineering team in their development with regard to the turbomachinery concepts, optimization and its aircraft integration.

Requirements

  • You hold a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering, or a related field.
  • You have over 20 years of pertinent experience in the industry, more specifically, in the field of expertise of engine turbomachinery core design. Ideally experience from an engine OEM and through the complete life cycle of a product, particularly the development phase.
  • You have a solid understanding of turbofan design best practices, performance, validation and verification, rig and flight testing.
  • You are familiar with engine externals, FADEC software and controls.
  • You are familiar with system installation qualification requirements (D0160, Vibration, Tubing....) for aircraft accessories such as fire detection loops, fire protection tubing, drains, fuel/hydraulic piping.
  • You have experience in risk management, probability analysis techniques and experience to identify the failure events.
  • You have a good understanding of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CAR) Airworthiness Manual (AWM) 525/533 development and certification life cycle processes.
  • You are reliable by demonstrating strong responsibility, integrity and teamwork.
  • You have experience with vendor management.
  • You possess strong communication and technical writing skills and can effectively work with English speaking suppliers.

Nice To Haves

  • Know-how in Artificial Intelligence (AI) would be a significant additional asset.
  • Previous experience working in aircraft investigations would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Be called upon to review critical technical proposals to ensure the design is compliant with airframer’s requirements, best practices and its practical use.
  • Provide technical support to the engineering development owners (D.O.) and integrators when required.
  • Perform trade-off studies in assessing new propulsion concepts.
  • Perform risk management for the perimeter of responsibility and support other functions.
  • Act as technical reference for the group in front of external partners and other Airbus platforms.
  • Acts as an entrepreneur/intrapreneur. Creates opportunities by exploiting upcoming technologies and business trends, experimenting with new ways of thinking and working. Actively drives simplification and continuous improvement, as well as disruptive innovation.
