About The Position

This role involves providing patient care for cardiac-pulmonary patients within a rehabilitation setting. The Exercise Physiologist will assess patient abilities, administer and interpret exercise tests, and develop exercise prescriptions. Responsibilities include administering therapeutic exercises, evaluating patient responses to exercise, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to design and implement exercise services. The position also involves developing educational materials, coordinating daily operations and long-term growth of the program, arranging patient follow-up, and maintaining communication with referring physicians. Additionally, the role requires accurate documentation of patient records, including treatments, vital signs, and responses to therapy, as well as timely completion of billing. Coordination with overseeing physicians is also a key aspect of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise and Sports Science required
  • At least one (1) year of related experience OR Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of exercise therapy for coronary disease OR Respiratory Therapy with experience in Cardiac- Pulmonary diseases and care OR Nurse RN with experience in Cardiac- Pulmonary diseases and care
  • Current BLS
  • Current ACLS
  • ACSM certified or obtained in 6 months of hire

  • Certified as an Exercise Specialist (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provides appropriate patient/guest care for cardiac-pulmonary patients per department standards
  • Assesses the extent of patient abilities and limitations by reviewing medical records and physician’s notes.
  • Administers pre-exercise testing interview and test preparation.
  • Uses testing equipment, protocol selection, indications, contraindications, and termination criteria for graded exercise testing.
  • Records, analyzes, and interprets results of tests and prepares appropriate exercise prescriptions as directed by the Overseeing Cardiac-Pulmonary Physician
  • Administers therapeutic exercises and other techniques designed to provide improved functional capacity, exercise tolerance, exercise endurance, muscle strength and endurance, and coordination to rehabilitating patient populations.
  • Evaluates patients hemodynamic, and symptomatic response to exercise, and assesses appropriateness of responses as they relate to exercise intensity and endurance.
  • In conjunction with multi-disciplinary team members, designs, implements, supervises, and evaluates outcomes for exercise services.
  • Assists in developing and providing educational materials and programs for staff and patients.
  • Assists in coordinating the daily operations of the cardiac rehabilitation program as well as planning for long term growth.
  • Assists in arranging for patient follow-up and maintains correspondence with patients referring physicians during rehabilitation course and after discharge.
  • May assist in program development for cardiac- pulmonary rehabilitation, employee fitness and health, facility utilization, ect .
  • Documents the patient record per departmental standards.
  • Documents the treatment, vital signs pre & during rehabilitation sessions, response to therapy, any side effects, and patient/family teaching.
  • Reviews physician order, review of patient chart including appropriate lab work, diagnostics, consultations, and nursing assessment/notes.
  • Completes billing in a timely manner, usually within 24 hours of service.
  • Coordination directly with physicians who oversee their prospective rehab area
