Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director - Large Casualty
About The Position
Zurich is seeking an experienced Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director – Large Casualty to join their National Account, Large Casualty Team in the West Region. This role is specifically for the Southern California Territory, offering flexible work locations in Los Angeles and Irvine offices. The primary responsibility is to contribute to profitable production growth and strong renewal retention of Large Casualty business by evaluating, pricing, and negotiating complex large-scale commercial insurance risks, while also cultivating broker and client relationships. The company operates under the motto 'One Carrier, One Solution,' aiming to provide holistic solutions by integrating Domestic Casualty business with Umbrella, Property, Financial Lines, Cyber, and International offerings for large, complex customers. The position can be filled at either the Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director level, determined by the selected applicant's experience and skills.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
- Experience working in a team environment
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
- Experience with Microsoft Office

Responsibilities
- Underwriting, analyzing, and generating new and renewal business
- Market facing and production within the Large Casualty, National Accounts division
- Administering and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations and rating manual rules
- Developing and maintaining broker relationships in the Southern California Territory
- Working within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments
