About The Position

The Cook County Board of Review (CCBOR) is a quasi-judicial agency that reviews and hears property tax appeals. The Executive Legal Assistant will provide paralegal and administrative support to the legal department. The Executive Legal Assistant will work closely in a collaborative environment with the Chief Deputy Commissioner and General Counsel. The Executive Legal Assistant will have excellent organizational and time management skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related fields such as criminal justice or paralegal certification.
  • Two to four years of professional experience working in a private or government law firm.
  • Strong ability to anticipate the needs of others.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
  • Excellent ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Expert in legal research.
  • Proficient in MS Office, legal databases and ability to work with legal technology (court-filing computer systems, transcription software, etc.)
  • Resume and application must clearly indicate the duration and nature of work experience and education for consideration in accordance with all minimum and preferred qualifications.
  • Long periods of time working on a computer requiring vision and typing capability.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Traveling between the office and meetings may be required.
  • Must establish/maintain Cook County, Illinois, Residency – Employees are required to live full–time within the geographic boundaries of Cook County, Illinois.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct support to legal department and executive leadership on sensitive and strategic matters.
  • Handles confidential labor relations communications, disciplinary documentation, and privileged legal materials requiring a high degree of discretion.
  • Participates in the preparation and coordination of litigation materials and provides support in collective bargaining processes.
  • Maintains regular access to highly confidential labor relations information and legal strategy, requiring strict adherence to confidentiality and professional judgment.
  • Research and analyze legal issues and create presentations and other written materials, contributing to effective dissemination of legal information.
  • Prepare legal drafts by assembling and organizing information for legal documents, including complaints, declarations, discovery requests, responses, and other pleadings.
  • Ensure that all organizational records related to public meetings are maintained in full compliance with the Open Meetings Act and promptly address any Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests as they arise.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with the legal department and other internal and external stakeholders in carrying out work assignments.
  • Manage database systems for legal documentation and correspondence.
  • Plan, schedule and track the legal department’s activities including court appearances, depositions, meetings, conferences and travel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Implements and executes of Cook County Board of Review policies.
