About The Position

Gatehouse Ministries is a non-profit organization located in Redding, California, dedicated to assisting third-culture university students and missionary kids (TCK's & MK's) in their assimilation into American culture while they attend Simpson University. Founded in 1999, Gatehouse has significantly impacted over 300 students by providing a loving, supportive, home-like family environment during their university years. The organization operates as an off-campus dorm for 8-9 students, fostering a family-like atmosphere through shared dinners four nights a week, weekly "family" meetings, and assigned student responsibilities for daily upkeep. The facility includes separate Men's and Women's Wings, with a shared common area. The Director's apartment is adjacent to one wing and includes a private exit and patio. The location is conveniently situated a quarter-mile from the Simpson University campus, with transportation options including student-owned cars and provided bicycles. Directors are expected to adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by Simpson University for its staff.

Requirements

• Ability to serve as both Executive Director of the non-profit and Residential Manager.
• Willingness to adhere to the rules and regulations for Simpson University staff.
• Ability to assist the Board & Chairman in fundraising.
• Ability to manage administrative duties for a 501c3.
• Ability to manage donor relations, including thank you letters, receipts, and newsletters.
• Ability to plan and oversee student activities and property maintenance.
• Must be a couple for this position.
• Must be able to start August 1st, 2025, or sooner.
• Must submit current CVs with a cover letter.
• Must complete an application including testimony, resume, and other background information.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate applications for student positions each semester, in conjunction with Simpson University Housing Department.
• Conduct interviews for qualified student applicants and collaborate with the board for final student selection.
• Provide overall support to students, assisting with transitions to living in the US, including practical matters like obtaining a driver's license, setting up bank accounts, and scheduling healthcare appointments.
• Act as a mentor to students, helping them set educational goals, providing a listening ear, and ensuring accountability.
• Serve as a spiritual companion, creating a safe space for students of all backgrounds and walking with them individually.
• Plan and oversee four dinners per week, encouraging student participation in meal preparation and cleanup.
• Manage grocery shopping and meal planning.
• Oversee the care and maintenance of the property, both inside and outside, assigning tasks to students for regular cleaning and yard work.
• Plan community outings and events such as holiday parties, lake days, skiing trips, game nights, and kayaking excursions.
• Attend to administrative duties necessary for maintaining the non-profit's 501c3 status, including reporting to the bookkeeper and completing IRS Form 990 and State Form 199.
• Manage donor relations, including sending thank you letters and receipts, and overseeing the quarterly newsletter.
• Assist the Board and Chairman in fundraising efforts.
