About The Position

Responsible for providing leadership and direction to ensure compliance to established policies, procedures, and/or practices. Serves as a key member of the Superintendent’s executive leadership team, acting as a strategic leader and spokesperson on behalf of the Superintendent and Henry County Schools. Provides supervision and support for assigned department staff. Assists with the on-going review and update of Board policy, regulations, and exhibits. Ensures strong, on-going communication with principals and district leaders. Serves as the liaison to the school district’s legal counsel. Promotes a performance culture by troubleshooting and investigating complaints. Supervises the direction of various processes and procedures to ensure quality service is provided to school district employees, agencies, and community members, including record requests, student complaints, Civil Rights Data Collection, policy and legal issues, and student handbooks. Manages the coordination of enhancing community awareness of school and district processes. Responds and elevates all stakeholders’ concerns where appropriate. Supervises and monitors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Office for Civil Rights (OCR), Department of Justice (DOJ), and Department of Labor (DOL) complaints. Assists with the development of growth and development opportunities for district-level and school-level staff. Maintains documentation and completes records required by state and federal laws and regulations. Keeps abreast of federal and state laws and policies and ensures compliance. Attends meetings and trainings as required. Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of administrative/supervisory experience required
  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Must be able to be present at the physical worksite.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending, lifting, and pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communication skills are essential factors in performing essential tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Law degree preferred
  • Georgia Educator Certificate in Educational Leadership preferred
  • Prior building-level and/or district office administrative experience preferred
  • Prior legal experience preferred
  • Knowledge of public education and driving improvement in student achievement.
  • Ability to use quantitative and qualitative information in an instructional setting to drive decision-making and evaluation.
  • Strong strategic planning and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with systems thinking and the ability to analyze organizational situations from structural, human capital, political, and cultural perspectives.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and synthesize information carefully to develop an effective course of action.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully, appropriately, and effectively with individuals and groups, including the Board of Education, Superintendent, Executive Cabinet team, the Board Attorney, district staff, local school staff, and the community.
  • Ability to exhibit a consistent sense of urgency around improving student performance, closing the achievement gap, and making the instructional improvements needed to do so.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and support for assigned department staff.
  • Assist with the on-going review and update of Board policy, regulations, and exhibits.
  • Ensure strong, on-going communication with principals and district leaders.
  • Serve as the liaison to the school district’s legal counsel.
  • Promote a performance culture by troubleshooting and investigating complaints.
  • Supervise the direction of the following processes and procedures to ensure that quality service is provided to school district employees, agencies, and community members: Record requests and production, including but not limited to open records, non-party, authorization, agencies, and subpoenas; Student complaints and grievances, including internal and agency investigations; U.S. Department of Education’s Civil Rights Data Collection; Policy and legal issues; Student Handbooks; Title IX.
  • Manage the coordination of enhancing the community awareness of school and district processes.
  • Respond and elevate all stakeholders’ concerns where appropriate.
  • Supervise and monitor Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Office for Civil Rights (OCR), Department of Justice (DOJ), and Department of Labor (DOL) complaints, including investigations, mediations, and district responses in coordination with the school board attorney.
  • Assist with the development of growth and development opportunities for district-level and school-level staff.
  • Maintain documentation and complete records required by state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Keep abreast of federal and state laws and policies and ensure compliance.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
