About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a hybrid Executive Director of Internal Communications to join our team at 10 Moore Drive, Durham, NC or 531 S. Spring Street, Burlington, NC. Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8am - 5pm (Eastern time) This schedule includes a minimum of three in-office days per week and two days working remotely, supporting both collaboration and flexibility. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the Executive Director serves as a trusted counselor to the CEO, Executive Committee and senior leaders across the enterprise. This leader sets the vision for internal communications and plays a critical role in helping employees understand where the organization is going, why it matters, and how they contribute to success. The Executive Director of Internal Communications is a strategic employee communications leader responsible for shaping how employees experience the organization – it's culture, strategy, leadership and purpose. This role brings big, bold thinking to how we inform, engage and inspire employees, and ensures people feel deeply connected to the business, its leaders and one another. This role goes beyond messaging to build connection, clarity and confidence during moments of transformation, growth and change. The Executive Director will translate strategy into meaning, foster dialogue across levels and locations, and reinforce a culture rooted in transparency, trust and performance. Leading a team, the role will ensure effective global internal communications that engage employees in corporate offices, laboratories and service centers across the world. This is a unique opportunity for a naturally curious, seasoned internal communications leader to influence culture at scale, lead a high-performing team, and elevate employee communications as a strategic driver of enterprise outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10 or more years of experience or more of progressive communications experience, including significant experience leading internal or employee communications in large, complex organizations

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the enterprise internal communications strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational mission, vision, values and long-term business priorities.
  • Translate the business strategy, transformation initiatives and leadership priorities into clear, compelling employee narratives that drive understanding, alignment and engagement.
  • Shape and reinforce organizational culture through storytelling, leadership communications, and consistent, authentic messaging.
  • Ensure employees feel connected to leadership, the business and one another – especially across diverse roles, locations and work environments (clinical, corporate, laboratory and remote).
  • Support enterprise-wide change initiatives with proactive, empathetic and disciplined change communications approaches.
  • Serve as a senior advisor to the CEO, Executive Committee and senior leaders on employee communications, leadership voice and engagement strategies.
  • Partner closely with leaders to elevate their communication effectiveness, including message framing, tone, cadence and channel selection.
  • Act as the primary liaison between executive leadership and the Internal Communications team, ensuring alignment, clarity and consistency.
  • Lead, inspire and develop a high-performing internal communications team, setting clear expectations and fostering innovation, creativity and accountability.
  • Build scalable communication models, playbooks and processes that support enterprise priorities and consider new approaches.
  • Oversee internal communications channels and platforms, ensuring they are modern, effective and audience-centered.
  • Leverage digital tools, data and emerging technologies (including AI) to enhance communication effectiveness, efficiency, agility and insight.
  • Establish metrics and feedback mechanisms to measure the effectiveness of internal communications and adjust strategy based on insights.
  • Stay attuned to employee sentiment, engagement trends and organizational dynamics to proactively address communication needs.
