About The Position

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) is the City agency responsible for regulating for-hire transportation in New York City. The TLC oversees a transportation ecosystem that moves nearly 1 million riders every single day. TLC is entering a new era of dignity, accountability, and collaboration across the for hire vehicle sector. TLC’s Uniformed Services Bureau (USB) is the division responsible for the safety of the riding public. Comprised of uniformed Peace Officers and Inspectors dedicated to public safety and upholding TLC regulations, USB’s two main units are Safety and Emissions, and Enforcement. The USB manages the agency's vehicles and facilities, and oversees the divisions responsible for inspecting TLC-licensed vehicles and enforcing against unlicensed for-hire activity throughout New York City. Reporting to the Deputy Commissioner for USB and exercising latitude for independent initiative, judgment, and decision-making, the selected candidate will serve as Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner managing a broad range of administrative and operational support functions. The Executive Assistant acts as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders and serves as a liaison to senior management on special projects.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be reachable on the Principal Administrative Associate civil service list to apply.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
  • An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described in "1" above; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience as described in "1" above; or
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. However, all candidates must possess the one year of administrative or supervisory experience as described in "1" above. Education above the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative experience (but not for the one year of administrative or supervisory experience described in "1" above) at a rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3 year.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Deputy Commissioner's calendar, including scheduling meetings and ensuring all necessary materials are prepared in advance
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings, recording minutes, and distributing follow-up actions
  • Prioritize and respond to incoming correspondence, calls, and emails of a sensitive or confidential nature determining the most effective course of action
  • Assist in arranging, coordinating, and implementing events
  • Organize and track the recruitment and onboarding process for Cadets and non-uniformed staff
  • Prepare spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, letters, memos, and other correspondence for internal and external audiences
  • Complete special projects and ad hoc assignments as needed
