About The Position

The Excavator Operator operates a crawler or rubber-tired machine mounted with an excavator bucket for excavating ditches, structures, and mass excavations; laying pipe and precast concrete structures; loading trucks; and placing rock riprap. The machine may also be equipped with various hydraulic attachments. The role works outdoors and is subject to changing weather conditions. It involves heavy physical activity and requires manual dexterity to handle items and work with fingers and perceive attributes of objects and materials.

Requirements

• Less than a high school diploma and related construction experience.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to reach and handle items, work with fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
• Ability to perform strenuous, heavy physical activity.

Responsibilities

• Start engines and operate machines using throttles, switches, levers, and pedals.
• Signal truck drivers to position trucks for loading dirt, rocks, and other materials.
• Avoid potential hazards and obstructions, including utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
• Oil, grease, or otherwise service the machine as needed.
• Make necessary equipment adjustments.
• Comply with safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report unsafe activities to a supervisor and/or Human Resources.
• Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
• Provide leadership to others through example and sharing knowledge and skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
