About The Position

The Department of Public Safety is hiring an Administrative Specialist I (Examiner) for the Office of Victim Compensation Services. The position responds to frequent inquiries from claimants, care providers, management, and the general public about specific claims and program issues. Its primary purpose is to determine whether expenses submitted under the Crime Victims Compensation Program and Rape Victim Assistance Program are eligible for compensation. Because submitted bills are complex, this work requires extensive knowledge of program guidelines. The Office of Victim Compensation Services supports North Carolina victims through the Crime Victim Compensation Program and the Rape Victim Assistance Program. The Crime Victim Compensation Program reimburses eligible citizens for certain medical expenses and lost wages resulting from being an innocent victim of a crime committed in North Carolina. The Rape Victim Assistance Program provides free forensic medical examinations for victims of rape or sex offenses. The position provides direct services to adult and child victims of violent crimes and communicates with individuals across the organization, including the Director, Commission Members, and Legal Staff. This is a full-time, time-limited position for 24 months, scheduled for 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. It includes State Benefits and qualifies for part-time teleworking. The position is subject to applicable background-check requirements, including a PREA-specific background check where applicable.
