About The Position

This position is located in Charlotte - East, North Carolina. NCDMV is centered on becoming an exceptional customer service organization and a great place to work. This transformation is an ongoing, iterative effort to realign staffing levels, improve service accessibility, reduce excessive wait times, and ensure customers can receive services where they live. Using a data driven methodology, NCDMV deploys staff across its statewide footprint, expands service hours in underserved areas, prioritizes staffing relief for high demand offices, and invests in new or expanded facilities where population growth has outpaced capacity. The Examiner I – Driver License position requires a strong customer-first mindset, ensuring every transaction delivers timely, respectful, and accurate service while identifying opportunities to enhance service delivery and streamline office operations. This includes anticipating customer needs, recognizing and addressing concerns before they escalate, providing clear guidance to help customers navigate the licensing process, and ensuring North Carolinians receive accurate and timely assistance. Examiner I employees will maintain compliance with all North Carolina laws and will interpret regulations as well as Division policies while collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to maintain consistency and alignment across regions. The candidate selected for this position will maintain professionalism in all customer interactions and uphold high service standards, which is essential to improving customer satisfaction and strengthening the Division’s reputation statewide. The role requires a customer-first mindset, ensuring that every transaction delivers timely, respectful, and accurate service. Requirements

  • Must have a valid N.C. Driver License with no suspensions or revocations within the past 10 years in any state for any motor vehicle-related offense and no more than 5 active points.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Customer service experience with diverse groups.
  • Providing detailed information to the public.
  • Working in environments that require interviewing individuals to gather information.
  • Having a working knowledge of DMV policies and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience explaining policy, procedure and/or laws to educate customers or the public.
  • Customer service experience (friendly, enthusiastic attitude who enjoys serving customers) with a diverse clientele.
  • Knowledge of basic computer software that includes database programs, Microsoft Office applications and the ability to quickly adapt to internal systems.
  • Work experience typing using a computer keyboard.
