The Examiner I – Driver License position requires a strong customer-first mindset, ensuring every transaction delivers timely, respectful, and accurate service while identifying opportunities to enhance service delivery and streamline office operations. This includes anticipating customer needs, recognizing and addressing concerns before they escalate, providing clear guidance to help customers navigate the licensing process, and ensuring North Carolinians receive accurate and timely assistance. Examiner I employees will maintain compliance with all North Carolina laws and will interpret regulations as well as Division policies while collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to maintain consistency and alignment across regions. The candidate selected for this position will maintain professionalism in all customer interactions and uphold high service standards, which is essential to improving customer satisfaction and strengthening the Division’s reputation statewide. This role requires a customer-first mindset, ensuring that every transaction delivers timely, respectful, and accurate service. This includes anticipating customer needs, recognizing and responding to customer concerns before they escalate, and the ability to provide clear guidance to help customers navigate the licensing process. To ensure we meet our mission of providing for customers in other offices, flexibility to travel during the day and overnight on short notice may be required. If selected for this position, the candidate will be required to report for orientation and their first week of employment to DMV Headquarters in Rocky Mount, NC. Hotel accommodation will be provided. This position is covered under the REAL ID Act. Applicants must meet the required qualifications: Must have a valid N.C. Driver License with no suspensions or revocations within the past 10 years in any state for any motor vehicle-related offense and no more than 5 active points. Therefore, pursuant to 6 CFR, 37.45, the selected candidate will be required to undergo a background check which includes a name-based and fingerprint based criminal history record check. The candidate that is selected for the position will be given a conditional offer of employment that would allow him or her to begin work subject to the results of the background check. Prior to beginning employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a name-based and fingerprint-based criminal history record check. There will be a cost associated with this process for new employees. No cost is associated with this process for existing DMV employees.
