About The Position

Responsible for developing and implementing systems for Yale-New Haven Hospital, which foster innovation, ensure the effective and safe delivery of medical care and facilitate improvements in patient outcomes and satisfaction. In collaboration with senior management and medical staff leadership, establishes strategic goals for clinical quality improvement and implements initiatives to ensure goals are achieved. Oversees institutional regulatory compliance and readiness, ensuring that YNHH meets performance standards established by the Connecticut Department of Health, Joint Commission and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Responsible for graduate medical education activities, as well as medical staff administration. Oversees clinical redesign activities for Yale New Haven Health System, in collaboration with the Yale New Haven Health System Chief Medical Officer. Serves as the primary clinical quality and patient safety liaison to the Yale School of Medicine (YSM), and members of the Greater New Haven physician community.

Requirements

  • M.D. with advanced training in Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics or Pediatrics.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience as a senior clinical leader, with significant experience preferably in a complex, multi-hospital, academic healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective positive and sustained changes in a complex environment.
  • Experience in the use of Lean Management / Six Sigma performance improvement methods.
  • Experience and understanding of a matrixed system; this position will work with senior leadership at YNHH, YNHHS, YSM and community physicians.
  • Knowledge of safety and quality process improvement and all related legal and accreditation issues.
  • Ability to lead physician behavior change.
  • Skilled in demonstrating creativity and insightfulness, particularly in the design of clinical measurements and fostering the acceptance of standards.
  • Ability to lead and work collaboratively with physicians and staff.
  • Ability to translate overarching organizational strategy into short-term goals and results.
  • Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and implements standards of medical services. Collaborates and interacts with other Administrators, Clinical Chiefs and Associate Clinical Chiefs of Services to ensure quality medical services are delivered and medical quality assurance standards are met.
  • Responsible for the development and management of the GME program in conjunction with YSM. Oversees YSM staff related to the GME program, including the GME Director.
  • Under the direction of the YNHHS COO, co-leads clinical redesign activities for YNHHS, in conjunction with the YNHHS CMO.
  • Serves as a Member of the Yale-New Haven Hospital Board of Trustees; staffs the Patient Safety and Quality Committee.
  • Establish a culture, identity and sense of team that fosters exceptional service, creative problem solving and collaboration.
  • Develops relationships with community providers, both in CT and nationally.
