About The Position

Reporting to the Health System President & Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a core member of the executive leadership team and a principal advisor to the Board of Directors and its Audit and Finance Committees, including clear communication of financial performance, capital strategy, and enterprise risk. The CFO is the senior executive responsible for financial strategy, performance, and integration across Albany Med Health System (AMHS), aligning financial leadership with enterprise priorities and long-term sustainability. The CFO leads the development and execution of an integrated financial strategy spanning long-range planning, capital allocation, revenue cycle, payer strategy, and core financial operations. In doing so, the CFO aligns financial and operational priorities across the academic medical center, community hospitals, physician enterprise, and research infrastructure— establishing a consistent approach to how performance is measured, managed, and improved at scale. In close partnership with clinical, operational, and academic leadership, the CFO ensures that financial strategy advances operational discipline, clinical excellence, and sustainable growth. The role is central to shaping the enterprise financial operating model, strengthening coordination across entities, and enabling faster, more informed decision-making. A key focus of the role is translating system priorities into actionable financial plans with clear accountability, measurable outcomes, and continuous improvement mechanisms. This includes enhancing enterprise-wide planning and analytics capabilities, increasing transparency of performance, and driving alignment across AMHS—accelerating the system’s transition from a historically federated structure to a more integrated, enterprise-wide model of governance, performance, and capital deployment. Consistent with the future leadership structure of AMHS, the CFO provides executive oversight for financial leaders and functions across the enterprise, including: • Entity Chief Financial Officers across AMHS hospitals and affiliates (matrix) • System Controller and Accounting • Financial Planning & Analysis • Treasury, Cash Management, and Debt Strategy • Revenue Cycle and Patient Financial Services • Payer Strategy, Contracting, and Reimbursement (matrix) • Internal Audit, Financial Risk, and Compliance • Financial Systems, ERP, and Analytics • Tax, Regulatory Reporting, and Filings

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of 15 years of progressive senior financial leadership experience in a large multi-entity health system, not- for-profit healthcare organization, or equivalent complex organization.
Demonstrated experience leading financial transformation initiatives in complex healthcare or comparable organizations.
Proven ability to improve financial performance through data-driven management, process redesign, and system integration.
Strong experience with ERP platforms, financial planning systems, and data analytics; track record of leveraging data to drive decisions.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to present complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders and to the Board.
Experience presenting financial strategies and performance updates to Boards of Directors, Audit Committees, and executive leadership teams.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, or equivalent) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential strongly preferred.
Experience in an integrated delivery system or multi-hospital regional health system that combines academic medicine, community hospital operations, and physician enterprise complexity.
Experience in system integration or large-scale consolidation initiatives within an academic medical center or integrated health system.
Deep understanding of healthcare reimbursement (Medicare/Medicaid), revenue cycle dynamics, cost-to-serve analytics, and value-based care models.
Prior exposure to capital-intensive programs, debt issuance and rating agency engagement, philanthropy/fundraising support, and financial stewardship of research and education activities.
Familiarity with value-based care models, risk-based contracting, and enterprise operating model transformation.
Knowledge of governance frameworks and experience working with hospital trustees, audit committees, or a corporate board.
Record of success in organizational integration, operational turnaround, or large-scale performance improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

Leads the development and execution of the system-wide financial strategy aligned with First Choice 2030, enabling integration of the academic medical center, community hospitals, physician enterprise, digital platforms, and research infrastructure.
Owns long-range financial planning, annual budgeting, and multi-year capital planning to support strategic priorities, growth opportunities, and enterprise transformation.
Serves as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Board of Directors, and executive leadership team on enterprise financial strategy, risk, and performance.
Oversees all system-level financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, FP&A, treasury, cash management, tax-exempt compliance, and internal controls.
Delivers rigorous financial analysis and performance metrics to drive margin improvement, cost-to-serve optimization, productivity management, and value-based care initiatives.
Ensures accurate, timely financial statements and disclosures, with transparent reporting to the Board, Audit Committee, regulators, and stakeholders.
Establishes enterprise financial dashboards, performance metrics, and reporting structures to monitor performance and support continuous improvement.
Leads capital allocation and project governance for major investments and multi-hospital capital programs; models ROI, risk, and strategic fit; manages debt strategy and financing activities.
Partners with clinical and operational leaders to evaluate and prioritize capital projects, affiliations, and technology investments, including digital and data platforms.
Provides financial leadership for facilities planning, construction, and infrastructure investments across the enterprise.
Oversees system-wide revenue cycle optimization, payer contracting strategy and corporate partnerships, and reimbursement optimization within the evolving healthcare payment landscape (Medicare/Medicaid, commercial payers, value-based arrangements).
Ensures compliance with applicable regulations and maintains effective revenue integrity, pricing, and coding governance.
Partners with clinical and operational leadership to support population health, value-based care, and risk-based contracting strategies.
Establishes and strengthens enterprise risk management, internal controls, and regulatory compliance programs appropriate for a large not-for-profit, academically affiliated health system.
Leads external and internal audit coordination, ensures robust SOX-like controls where applicable, and manages insurance and risk transfer strategies.
Ensures enterprise readiness for financial resilience and business continuity from a financial perspective.
Provides leadership for the financial systems landscape (ERP, data warehousing, analytics) to enable data-driven decision-making and operational transparency across AMHS.
Champions data governance, financial analytics, and performance dashboards used by executive leadership and the Board.
Partners with digital and technology leadership to deploy financial technologies and analytics capabilities that improve efficiency, transparency, and decision support.
Acts as a trusted partner to the CEO, senior executives, clinical leaders, and academic partners; collaborates across the system to align financial, clinical, educational, and research objectives.
Interfaces with the Board of Directors and its Audit and Finance Committees; communicates strategy, performance, and risk with clarity and integrity.
Leads and develops a high-performing finance organization capable of sustaining a unified, integrated system.
Represents AMHS in financial partnerships and collaborates with rating agencies, lenders, regulators, and external stakeholders as appropriate.
Supports enterprise transformation efforts related to integration, standardization, shared services, and cross-entity financial governance to move AMHS from a federated model toward a cohesive system.
Provides financial leadership for affiliations, partnerships, joint ventures, and other strategic transactions across the enterprise.
Supports philanthropy and fundraising efforts and the financial stewardship of research and education activities.
