About The Position

Performs daily intake of property and evidence, including receiving from storage lockers, checking for proper packaging and submission form completeness, logging conforming items, and initiating refusal for non-conforming items. Stores property and evidence according to procedures, prepares evidence for transport and submission to laboratories, and intakes evidence returned from laboratories. Maintains tickler files for evidence return, release, and disposal, and determines when property and evidence can be released or disposed of. Creates disposal letters for courts and prepares property and evidence for return and/or disposal. Releases property to owners and creates statistical data reports on Police Department property and evidence upon request. Performs other duties assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license (Texas upon hire).
  • Physical ability to perform job duties including: standing, walking, sitting, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, hearing, pushing, pulling, and lifting and carrying weights as shown in the work classification.
  • Specific vision abilities including: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must obtain certification through the Texas Association of Property and Evidence Inventory Technician within one (1) year of employment.
  • Must obtain certification through the International Association of Property and Evidence Technician within three (3) years of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previously trained in NIMS (IS-700, 800, 100, 200, 300, and 400).
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of recognized standards for property rooms and logistics.

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily intake of property and evidence.
