About The Position

The University Police department within the Division of Administration and Finance is seeking an exceptional individual to join their team as an Evidence and Operations Support Technician (Administrative Support Coordinator II). This role is integral to the police department’s team, supporting efforts to ensure inclusive excellence is intentionally incorporated into department operations, programs, services, and culture. The Evidence and Operations Support Technician will represent CSUF PD and Cal State Fullerton by providing exceptional customer service while supporting the safety needs of the campus community. This position works independently on specialized operational protocols and responsibilities within the Property/Evidence and Records Administrative Unit, applying a wide range of technical, analytical, and administrative duties associated with the storing, handling, auditing, maintaining chain of custody, purging, and cataloging of police evidence and property. Additionally, this position will coordinate the department fleet vehicle program, manage department equipment, and perform other administrative support duties. The Evidence and Operations Support Technician is responsible for independently interpreting and applying laws, policy, and procedures to ensure department compliance with International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) accreditation standards, as well as CSU, CSUF, state, and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in general office, clerical or administrative support work or the equivalent.
  • Training at a vocational school or full-time college education may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.
  • Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
  • Thorough mastery of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Expertise in using office software packages, technology, and systems.
  • Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects.
  • Ability to independently interpret and apply policies and procedures and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist.
  • Ability to troubleshoot most office administration problems and respond to all inquiries and requests related to work area.
  • Ability to understand problems from a broad perspective and anticipate the impact of office administration problems and solutions on other areas.
  • Ability to analyze operational and procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions.
  • Ability to perform business math, analyze budgetary data, and make accurate projections requiring some inference.
  • Ability to effectively write and present own reports.
  • Ability to effectively handle interpersonal interactions at all levels including highly sensitive interpersonal situations.
  • Ability to use negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve results and expedite projects.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
  • Valid California driver’s license.
  • Must comply with the requirement outlined in CSU Executive Order 1083, revised July 17, 2017, as a mandated reporter.
  • Must complete CSA training.
  • Must sign a release form that authorizes the release of information by the applicant’s current and/or former employers to the CSU concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of police property and evidence and records policies and procedures.

  • Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Property and Evidence Management certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Represent CSUF PD and Cal State Fullerton by providing exceptional customer service while supporting the safety needs of the campus community.
  • Work independently on specialized operational protocols and responsibilities of the Property/Evidence and Records Administrative Unit within the police department.
  • Apply a wide range of technical, analytical, and administrative duties associated with the storing, handling, auditing, maintaining chain of custody, purging, and cataloging of police evidence and property that department personnel have obtained and processed.
  • Coordinate the department fleet vehicle program.
  • Manage department equipment.
  • Perform other administrative support duties.
  • Independently interpret and apply laws, policy, and procedures to use judgment to ensure department compliance with International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) accreditation standards, as well as CSU, CSUF, state, and federal regulations.
  • Use a state vehicle to transport evidence to the Crime lab, attend off-site trainings, and other functions.
  • Handle narcotics, weapons, biological, and biohazard items daily.
  • Lift, drag, push, and carry a minimum of twenty-five pounds.
  • Perform prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
  • View computer screens, videos, and photo data for extended periods.
  • Report allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness.
