About The Position

Operation Kindness Humane Society is seeking an Everyday Adoption Center Specialist to join their team. This role operates within a new Everyday Adoption Center located inside a PetSmart, featuring adoptable dogs and cats from Operation Kindness. The center includes kennels, enclosures, and a meet-and-greet playroom. Adoptions are available seven days a week during store hours. This is a 40-hour per week position with a schedule of Wednesday-Saturday, 8:30 am to 7:30 pm. The company offers a fun and rewarding work environment with excellent benefits. Availability on weekends and holidays is required, with time and a half pay for scheduled company-designated holidays. A Spanish speaker is a plus.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven ability to speak, read, and write English fluently.
  • Minimum 6 months previous experience in a Customer Service role.
  • Basic computer knowledge (Internet, Microsoft Office).
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Proven record of success in a customer service role or proven record of success at Operation Kindness.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Proven ability and interest in working successfully with all types of people.
  • Proven ability to multi-task.
  • Proven record of reliability pertaining to tardiness and attendance.
  • Proven ability to successfully handle challenging and complex situations.
  • Genuine liking for animals and working in an animal care environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Experience working with animals or significant pet knowledge strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Providing exceptional customer service for potential adopters.
  • Greeting each client promptly and pleasantly.
  • Thoroughly explaining the questionnaire and adoption process.
  • Observing the lobby area and ensuring all client needs are met.
  • Answering telephones and managing voicemail and email.
  • Ensuring lobby, desks, and Meet & Greet rooms are neat and organized.
  • Ensuring ample copies of required forms are available.
  • Filing questionnaires and other necessary forms.
  • Transporting shelter animals to/from the main shelter as needed.
  • Assisting in loading/unloading shelter vehicles.
  • Working alongside volunteers and other departments.
  • Washing, folding, and restocking laundry.
  • Sweeping and mopping lobby floors.
  • Dusting and cleaning all surfaces in lobby and meet & greet rooms.
  • Wiping down high-touch surfaces.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of all shelter space, including storage areas and equipment.
  • Closing financial books and depositing paperwork at the end of the day.
  • Transporting adoptable cats to other Retail Adoption locations.
  • Attending and assisting with Off Site Adoption events, including preparation, processing adoptions, and breakdown of supplies.
  • Feeding all animals in care twice daily according to the color-coded measuring system.
  • Ensuring all animals have access to fresh, clean water.
  • Adhering to special/prescription diets and feeding instructions.
  • Administering medications as needed.
  • Walking and exercising dogs regularly throughout the day.
  • Supervising small groups and pairs of dogs in the playroom.
  • Rotating adult cats and kittens into their “catio” for exercise and socialization.
  • Following proper safety guidelines and training protocols when interacting with animals.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing all shelter animal enclosures and kennel areas, following proper procedures for sanitation and disease prevention.
  • Maintaining cleanliness throughout the day by removing messes in a timely manner.
  • Performing weekly deep cleaning of kennel areas.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing all food and water bowls.
  • Spending time socializing with animals to prepare them for potential adopters.
  • Reviewing and verifying questionnaires for accuracy and completeness.
  • Matching potential adopters to available animals and providing necessary instruction and information.
  • Showing and handling dogs and cats to potential adopters.
  • Taking dogs to designated areas for introductions to potential adopters.
  • Maintaining safe and responsible control of animals at all times.
  • Reviewing adoption documents with adopters.
  • Entering all adoptions into Pet Point adoption software.
  • Explaining medical records and other pertinent pet information to adopters.
  • Processing payment and accurately recording payment information.
