About The Position

The Event Captain (Part-Time) is responsible for managing event staff and guest expectations efficiently and effectively, ensuring all guests have an exceptional experience for contracted events at The Madison Event Center and Hotel Covington. This role requires a guest-focused approach to all duties performed before, during, and after an event.

Requirements

  • Must be 20 years of age.
  • Must be Serv-Safe or T.I.P.S Certified.
  • Must be able to work unsupervised.
  • Must be able to work weekends.
  • Excellent oral communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 10 hours).
  • Be able to reach, bend, and safely lift and maneuver up to 30 pounds and move up to 100 pounds with assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage event staff and guest expectations.
  • Provide an exceptional guest experience.
  • Remain guest focused while performing all assigned duties.
  • Welcome and greet guests.
  • Provide information about food, beverages, and other functions and services.
  • Be responsible for all event staff within their room.
  • Record employee clock-in and clock-out times.
  • Use the timeline and matrix to organize staff and delegate responsibilities.
  • Check bars, coolers, and hotboxes for all specialty items pre-event.
  • Verify ballroom is set according to the approved floorplan.
  • Ensure all decorations are set up according to provided instructions.
  • Retrieve alcohol for events from the liquor room and record consumption.
  • Close out registers and credit card machines each night.
  • Check all employee assignments at the end of their shifts.
  • Maintain a clean and fully stocked prep area, restrooms, and ballroom.
  • Assist other team members with event duties.
  • Handle tables, chairs, linens, tableware, and décor carefully.
  • Follow safe food handling guidelines.
  • Clean and reset the ballroom at the end of every event.
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings and provide suggestions for improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
