About The Position

Zingerman’s Catering is hiring occasional, hourly Event Bartenders to work at celebrations and gatherings in Ann Arbor and throughout Southeast Michigan. Bartenders are the front line of catering events, tending bar and assisting the Catering team with serving guests while delivering the Zingerman’s Experience. The role involves a fast-paced environment, frequent customer interaction, and extended periods on your feet. Hours vary throughout the year. Available shifts are offered weekly, with work available year-round and more shifts during December, late spring and early summer, and fall. Most shifts last between 6 and 10 hours. Compensation starts at $18 per hour plus tips and increases to $19 per hour after completing orientation; tips are variable. Employees receive a free meal during each shift, discounts at Zingerman’s businesses, and a discounted bus pass. Requirements

Ability to work long shifts involving standing, walking, and bending throughout the shift.
Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
Ability to follow directions under time pressure.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks while staying focused and organized, with strong attention to detail.
Reliable transportation.
Strong customer-service reputation and passion for great food and service.

Nice To Haves

Catering or banquet bartending experience.
Alcohol-serving training such as TIPS or ServSafe Alcohol; training may also be provided upon hiring.
Flexible schedule and ability to sometimes work shifts on short notice.

Responsibilities

Meet and exceed expectations for serving and bartending at private guest events.
Set up the bar, including tables, linens, ice, and glassware, according to the selected bar service.
Greet guests and check identification.
Provide accurate pours for cocktails and wine.
Prepare classic cocktails and recommend wine selections to guests.
Load and unload garnishes, equipment, and beverages from the catering vehicle.
Keep the workspace clean, organized, and sanitized.
Assist with serving food or beverages at tables when time allows.
Provide exceptional service to event guests.
Respond promptly, accurately, politely, and enthusiastically to requests from guests, coworkers, supervisors, and managers.
Maintain a professional image through actions and appearance.
Conduct business in accordance with Zingerman’s Guiding Principles and Bottom Lines.
Complete assigned responsibilities and training requirements accurately and on time.
