About The Position

This position is available only to enrolled American University students. Industry Engagement at American University’s Kogod School of Business provides career development support to undergraduate and graduate business students. Event and Operations Assistants are students who assist with event planning and management as well as the office’s administrative operations. This position is paid, and hiring preference is given to students who will be available for both the fall and spring semesters.

Requirements

  • Students pursuing an undergraduate degree.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility, initiative, and ability to multitask and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Maturity and an elevated level of professionalism, especially as it relates to building and maintaining relationships with prospective and visiting employers.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Products.
  • Ability and willingness to lift up to 25lbs and move furniture during event setup and teardown.

  • Hiring preference is given to students who will be available for both the fall and spring semesters.
  • Individuals with flexibility to work events during both the workday and evenings will be prioritized.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with event logistics and provide day-of support for career services-related events, including setup, check-in, AV assistance, vendor coordination, and clean-up.
  • Prepare materials, supplies, and event kits in advance to ensure smooth and professional event execution.
  • Deliver high-level customer service to all visitors and event attendees (e.g., students, employers, faculty, staff, etc.).
  • Perform general office administrative duties, such as copying, restocking supplies, maintaining shared spaces, and assisting with routine clean-up to support daily office operations.
  • Perform data entry related to events.
  • Provide general project assistance regarding career service deliverables.
  • Develop familiarity with 12twenty, Handshake, and related career services platforms to support event check-in processes, troubleshoot basic technical issues (e.g., kiosk malfunctions or check-in errors), and assist with data entry and student support as needed.
  • Participate in cross training to serve as back up support for the Career Development Office.
  • Contribute to content creation for the department such as social media, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
